All the Oppo DVD players can be made region free with the remote, but they start at $169. For tips on other players, try searching here: http://www.videohelp.com/dvdhacks Is HDMI hook up always better than coaxial? THanks. Do any current DVD players use coax for video? It would pretty bad if so. You mean component or s-video or composite, right? HDMI and component are better than the other methods. In theory they have about the same capability for DVD-video quality, but for practical reasons involving Digital Rights Management, HDMI is preferred these days. -Bill Moretorque 12-13-08, 09:13 AM All the Oppo DVD players can be made region free with the remote, but they start at $169. Thanks again wmcclain 12-13-08, 09:18 AM Thanks ,does oppo really improve standard def dvd picture much? Thanks again Compared to what? And what sort of improvement are you expecting? Unless there is something really wrong with your current setup, there aren't many possibilities for a "night and day" improvement in DVD picture quality. Improvements are usually more subtle. Are you using a calibration disc? I would recommend doing that before spending money on new gear. -Bill juanchibiris 12-13-08, 09:48 AM Pioneer Elite DV-48AV at Vanns for only 100 shipped is a great deal, is region free and it can plays SACD and DVD-Audio, great Upscaling. I want a region 2 disc standard hd to look better on my 650 LCD What player are you using now? What connection method? What is "standard hd"? -Bill Moretorque 12-13-08, 03:33 PM I am using a go video region free and using the standard coaxial. I do not believe it does upscalling? I just ordered the Pioneer player but Pioneer say's it is region 1 where I was reading on the web and does not say anything about region free? wmcclain 12-13-08, 04:10 PM I am using a go video region free and using the standard coaxial. I do not believe it does upscalling? You cannot upscale over coax, composite or s-video. Only over component (with legal restrictions), VGA, DVI and HDMI. If the player does not upscale the display will do it. It's nice to have a choice, but not absolutely required. Coax is the worst connection method. -Bill |
