Anyone used this velodyne sub before (dls 5000r)? I am not very impressed with mine and am pondering whether an MFW15 would even be an upgrade? PS I have ordered happily in the past from av123 and am not concerned about the qc issues, just objectively about the sub's performance. Anyone had both?

Thanks in advance.

zkaudio....are you still in the South Bay area?

If you want, I have a VTF-3.3 you can try at your place if you are willing to haul it over there. PM me.

I remember that Velodyne wasn't highly competetive with the best of ID brands in price/performance. Did that recently change without my knowledge?

Dunno which comparison? Only one I know of is Craigsubs 100points for the DD-18? I think Velo performance is there but the price isn't completive. Like all BM stores

the DD18 and DD15's are good subs, but....the cost is rediculous. Go internet direct for sure. SVS, HSU, AV123, eD, Epik all much much better choices

I've never listened to a DLS-5000, but according to reviews it's a pretty good sounding sub with a lot of output. No really deep bass, however, due to not-so-deep tuning. It should have more output than a MFW-15, but won't play as deep. Here is a outdoor ground-plane test of the sub under a different name:

I'm saying I already have a dls-5000r and I am NOT impressed... it really doesn't dig like I want it to... Curtis I moved to manhattan beach, I'm at 43rd now, might have to take you up on that offer!

We're not far apart..I'm in the neighborhood behind Target.

Give me a shout, I need to decide what I want to do with the sub.

I love my MFW-15. I was worried about moving b/c I now have a huge room but it fills it quite well

I had a DLS4000R that I sold when I got my MFW-15.

There isn't any comparison. I realize it's not the DLS5000, but honestly I do not think these subs are in the same category - pricing aside.

The MFW bass is tighter, has more punch, and goes WAY lower. I immediately found the limits of my Velo - and was not really satisified with the output - so I had to lower the sub to prevent distortion and deal with the decreased output. I found the limits of my MFW at the same time I found my limits of sound level tolerance. At least for my room...

While I think others have compared HSU, SVS and eD to the MFW in the price range - nobody ever talks about Velo. The DLS line of Velo, in particular, seems like junk imo. I would not recommend it - having owned one in that line.

The DSL-5000R was tested with 4 other mid priced subs.

Here are the test results:

http://www.soundandvisionmag.com/speakers/2316/shootout-five-mid-price-subwoofers-velodyne-dls-5000r-page10.html

It could manage 91 db at 25 Hz. Lots of output at higher frequencies.

MFW-15 has not been tested by a professional, never-the-less, you can expect much more output from 25Hz down to about ~18 Hz.
