I'm considering the HSU VTF-1 at $404 but I'm wondering if it will really be that much better than my Yamaha sub since both of these are 10" subs with the same wattage. I don't know jack about speakers so maybe I'm not really comparing apples to apples here.
My budget is $400 tops for a sub and it will be part of my home theater setup so it will only be used for movies - no music. I have a simple 5.1 setup using Infinity Beta speakers in a 11 x 18 room with 8' ceilings.
If a new sub will be noticeably "better" than what I have, any recommendations aside from the HSU within my budget?
Thanks,
Travis
im willing to bet money it will be a lot better than the yammy.
i've heard the YST-SW1500 - and it totally wasn't doing anything for me.

The current consensus is that the eD A2-300 is the bang for buck sub of choice under the $400 price point. Plus, it is a 12 inch sub, which should extend lower than the Hsu.

better than the BIC VK-12, factoring it'll be $100 cheaper thanks to the live.com cashback offer?

If you have not purchased yet, have you considered the PB10-NSD for $30 more? It has excellent reviews and user feedback.

Thanks for the suggestion. I did some more digging in the forums here on the eD A2-300 and you are right. It seems most are recommending it for subs less than $400.
My only complaint is that it has to be the most boring speaker I've seen. Oh well, what do I care. It's tucked in the corner and never really seen anyway since I watch movies in the dark:)
So the eD A2-300 it is...thanks for the tip.
