I currently have a PS3, RCA Receiver (no HDMI), DishHD Box, and a Vizio HDTV (2 HDMI) as my setup. I'm running 2 HDMI cables from the PS3 and DishHD to the TV. And from the TV I'm running an optical cable to the Receiver.

Is that the best possible setup given what I have or am I missing something?

Thanks in advance for any information, it's much appreciated.

I am far from an expert, so make sure to check your manual or the AVS thread on that particular TV, but most modern sets I have seen will only send 2 channel audio through the audio output.

I am assuming this is because of the requirement for HDCP licensing which states that devices may not output DVD audio in quality greater than CD quality. It sounds like another issue of DRM negatively affecting the honest customers. I am assuming that TV manufacturers just limit all output to 2 channel to meet this requirement.

The best set up will be to run HDMI to the TV for video, and run a seperate digital audio cable (either coax or optical depending on the outputs/inputs of your sources and AVR) to the receiver.
