Hi all, I'm looking for some help on a mounting solution for a 52" LCD I recently puchased...

I want to mount the LCD outside of the enclosure below. These are just framed "spaces" on a wall of the home, but the LCD is larger in diameter than the enclosure, so it will have to be mounted outside the "frame" so to speak.

The space is 29" deep, and the TV weighs approximately 55 pounds.

The only (2) solutions I can think of is either a very deep, very extendable wall mount, which I would screw into the back wall, or a ceiling mount.

I am having trouble finding a mount that extends at least 29" from the wall. Also, I have never installed a ceiling mount, but I also included a picture of a "step" in the frame surround I am dealing with, and dont know if the 5" recess is too much for a ceiling mount to overcome depth wise. In other words, if I mount the ceiling mount behind this 5" "step", will the TV extend far enough from the ceiling mount?

Thanks for any ideas / comments, and sorry for the kindergarten-look-alike pic edits! :D

Mount a horizontal crossbar either flush or maybe 2-4 inches deep then mount the wall mount to the crossbar, then the TV to the wall mount.

Mount a horizontal crossbar either flush or maybe 2-4 inches deep then mount the wall mount to the crossbar, then the TV to the wall mount.

Thanks for the input,

I had thought about building some sort of frame inside the space also, but was trying to come up with a solution with a minimal amount of hacking.

Any other thoughts?

The build out is the best idea. My neighbor had something similar, wanted the TV to look like it was floating in the space. He built a sturdy wood 6x6 framed box out from the back and then a angled brace to help support from the bottom then mounted the wall mount to the box. Really looked nice and was easy to do and cheaper than a ceiling mount or articulating one. I wish I could show a picture, but he moved since and I'm not friendly with the newbies yet..

GOOD LUCK!

MrBoost, I would think what your attempting to do will look somewhat tacky. I say that out of experience i toyed with the idea of doing the same thing in my family room. My TV Niche was 6 inches to small for my TV so i either had to choose a tacky(to me non permanent solution), buy a new tv, or open the wall and reframe to accommodate the tv. Guess which one i did i may have some pics of the before and after.

I can't find the before pic but essentially the space was 42 diagonal just like your. I widened the space to 48 diagonal, added doors to close off the TV when not in use and framed it out. In my opinion and definitely my wife this way look 100% better than the cheap alternative.
