Just received my TV this past Saturday and after reading countless posts and forums here, I am more confused than before I began.

Some people swear by burn-in, others don't. Do I need to worry about black bars when watching widescreen or station logo's burning into my TV??

Also, noticed a lot of people using THX all the time, but to me, it is extremely flat and dark. When I switch to Vivid or Custom (factory default settings), the TV comes to life with color. Should I not be using Vivid when burning in the TV though? Why are people not using the other settings?

Any help/advice would be greatly appreciated!

VIVID mode is only really used for when the TV is on display in the stores, or if you're watching TV in a very bright sunlit room. You definitely don't want to use VIVID to break-in the TV. Also, the factory default settings usually aren't correct and usually don't look very good - they just give you a starting point for you to adjust it to your personal taste and your particular environment.

I don't believe in breaking in a current Panasonic using lowered settings - i don't think it's necessary on the newer models like it was 3-5 years ago and i don't think lower settings will exercise the phosphers anyway. I'd just adjust it till it looks good to you then just try to avoid black bars and tickers and static logos etc for the first hundred or so hours and leave it at that.
