Hi - I'm a newbie here and couldn't find this topic in the forum:

I'm currently building an addition to my house. The first floor will be a family room / home theater. I plan to use my Acoustimass system for audio. Before drywall is installed, I'll install speaker wire through the studs. I'd like to locate the speakers between the studs - behind the drywall, and mount speaker grilles over them.

Questions -
1. Will mounting the speakers this way greatly reduce the sound quality? Are they made to *only* be mounted on the Bose brackets?

2. Is metal or cloth the preferred grille method? Metal grilles seem very hard to find - and in either case it looks like this will be a very custom procedure to hide them properly.

Thanks!!

back in the day I used to work at a stereo store, yup, back before dolby surround sound, and about the time when BOSE first came out with the Acoustimass 5. The big deal of course was the small size and "big" sound. The design of the 2 swivel cubes was to allow the "2-way aiming of the direction of the mid-trebles" and using the wall surface as a "bounce" surface. If you mount them in the wall, that may affect the "BOSE-engineering" of the refective frequency design. I've not owned a BOSE system, so perhaps they work different today then back in the late 80's.
I probably would NOT install speaker in the wall unless they are designed to be in-wall.
Anyone else know more about newer BOSE technology?

do not go to these extremes for bose speakers. Even if you absolutely love them they're small enough to do a simple wall mount without reinventing the wheel.

I suggest you recess them, drywall over them and then get yourself some real speakers. :D :D :D

:D Now that's funny!!! I wanted to say that, but thought being new here I should not start it.
I used to sell the cute little buggers, but not a big fan of the little voice boxes myself,,,,, but to each their own,,,, they really were created to favor the WAF....

Sorry to offend anyone who does perfer the BOSE sound, not here to knock personal opinions, just thought I'd laugh and concur.
