Alright I'm new to this forum, sorry If I've placed this in the wrong place.

I would like to connect my laptop to my new hd tv. Here is what I know

Laptop: Dell xps m1210
VGA will output 1080p (1900 x 1080)
No HDMI

TV: Toshiba Regza 32' 1080p 32RV530U
Supports up to (1360 x 768) input through VGA
Multiple HDMI inputs
Various Component inputs

I believe that I can send VGA to an HDMI converter and then plug that into my tv but I know those are fairly expensive and I'm not 100% sure it will be 1080p. If their are any other options just let me know, or if anyone has specific hardware they recommend, just throw a link up. Any suggestions for what I should do regarding hookups would be great. Thanks

if you really want 1080p, i would buy a new video card before trying to get a VGA to Hdmi converter. Video cards that would work for you are pretty inexpensive nowadays.

otherwise I would just connect the VGA output, to the VGA input on the tv.

Unfortunately the computer I'm using is a laptop, so buying a new video card might not be the best idea. BTW I currently have the geforce 7400 go

I've actually found out something else that I never knew before and I was wondering if anyone could shed some light on it.

Apparently my laptop has a 7 pin svideo cable which can output 1080i.
Here is the cord I was looking at

(Sorry I can't hyperlink it because I don't have enough posts)

Unfortunately it won't be 1080p but shouldn't 1080i be alright?

my bad, i didnt pay attention to your model number.

it's not an Svideo output, its actually an SDPIF output. i've never tried using this output with the component video adapters. I'd be interested to hear how it works for you.

I'm thinking that will be my best bet. If I end up getting it I'll try and remember to post the results
