I recently ordered two new HDMI 1.3a cables, from Monoprice.com

I've connected these cables to my Playstation 3 and to my digital HDTV cable box, and I'm connecting these devices to my new Toshiba 1080p 120hz HDTV. The video seems OK (since these are the first HDMI cables I've tried), but the audio playback is sketchy.

Whenever these cables are attached, I get these "buzzing" sounds during music, and speech. I've played with all the settings that I can see from the menu in my TV, and nothing seems to make it better. This occurs on both the Playstation 3, and for HD cable, using HDMI inputs #1, and #2 respectively.

Previously, I had the HD cable box and Playstation 3 hooked up with red and white RCA cables, and the audio quality seemed fine.

Does this indicate a problem with my TV, or the cables?

Here are the cables I ordered: "High Speed HDMI 1.3a Category 2 Certified Silver-Plated Copper CL2 Rated (For In-Wall Installation) Cable (24AWG) - 6ft (Gold Plated Connectors)"

This is my TV: "Toshiba 52XV54OU"

I would post links, but the site won't let me.

Seems likely to be a TV problem if it occurs with both the Playstation and the cable box, especially if you are using two different cables.

It could be some kind of ground loop problem. Do you get the buzzing with just one cable hooked up? Try connecting all the devices to the same power outlet, even if you have to use an extenstion cord, and see if that makes a difference.

I should have been more clear.

The cables are the same type. Just 2 copies of the same cable type from Monoprice.

All devices are plugged into the same outlet.

I really don't think it is the cable since thousands of others have used them with no problem. It could be an issue with the TV. Try to take the cable out and replug it in when the set is on to be sure it is seated properly.

I have the same cables with no problem. I agree with crutschow, check for a ground loop. Cable TV is the worst culprit. Undo all wires (HDMI/Power/Coax) from the cable box to the TV, then run just the PS3 with your HDMI cable and see if the noise is still there. If its gone then the noise is a ground loop from your cable.

I'm in the process of returning 4 HDMI cables from Monoprice. They all give me bad video on my BD player.. I had to go buy a 'cheap' Philips brand at Frys for 16+tax to get my BD player to act properly.
