I hope this has not been asked before I search, but do not see to be able to find any information.

I have been having some issues with the display on my SA8300 HDC box so after calling Comcast I was told to unplug it, and startup while pressing the power button... Once this was done the video seemed very large and out of proportion. After digging into it I figure out that I no longer am getting anything out the component cables, only the SVideo cable (so my TV is trying to adjust)

Before this reset it worked fine, after it does not; so I assume it is just a setting that I can not seem to find.

I shutdown and got into the setup menu, told it it was HD, and picked all the the 16:9 option. Also I made sure 1080i was turned on, and the unit when I go to an HD station says it is in that mode (on the front display next to the time). However I am onyl getting output on the SVideo cable. I do NOT have HDMI so I can not test that port (older Sony HDTV so only component).

Anyone able to lend a hand? Some magic setting I am missing? I can tell it is a different software rev as one option I loved is now gone (use to let me set a startup channel so when I turned on ESPN would be on, now I always get some crappy local station on startup and I can not change it!)

Some SA receivers can not transmit over 2 interfaces at once and AFAIK that if they can they have to send the resolution over both interfaces and this would cause problems since S_video is 480i

I was thinking that, so I unplugged all expect the component. When I do that I get no video at all :( What is odd is it all worked fine for about 6 months (and the 8300HD I had before for a few years) - just started doing this with what seem to be a new software rev (as the option I know existed before is now gone)

What resoloution are you trying to output over component many HDTVs will only accept ATSC TV resoutions over component.

Just 1080i.

Trying to view an HDTV Station (ESPNHD). The part that is getting me confused it is worked fine for months, then the "reboot" as they called it broke it.

Strange since ESPN HD is transmitted in 720p not 1080i but that should not make any difference since you have STB set to ouput all 16:9 aspect ratio broadcasts in 1080i.
AFAIK many of the SA boxes have the option to output in pass through mode which would meant the ESPN would be output at 720p instead of 1080i.

I checked to see if it could just be selecting thw wrong output so changing the resolution...

I unplugged the SVideo and only left the component cables in... After this I just get no video; so it does seem it is not using the component at all.

I am starting to wonder if the box is messed up; does anyone know how to set the box to a good diag mode where I can tell what might be up?

I looked at this post

but the diagnostics mode that this goes over does not seem to have a way to do tests; just dumps general information.

I hate to say it, but it looks like your box has croaked! Time for a truck roll or you bringing it over to the TWC office for a replacement.

Of course, any unwatched programs on the drive are gone.
