I'm considering on buying a network amp to play Flac files.

However I'm not sure if the best method is to decode the flac files using a PC or to decode them using an AV receiver and what the pros/cons are.

Are they both software based? (is it just using firmware in an AV receiver (eg Denon 3808)

Does sending an uncompressed signal to the amp rather than a compresed signal introduce greater potential for error? (is it significant)

Thanks for any info:)

FLAC is FLAC... it's decoded and plays.

No different than "what decodes MP3's better?"... an IPod, PC or A/V receiver.

IMO, use what is most convenient and cost effective.
