I have a 5.1 setup consisting of Paradigm Studio 100s v3 fronts CC-470 v3 center, Studio 20 v4 rears and Servo 15 sub. My processor is a Integra 9.8. I have 2 Adcom Gfa 5800 2 ch amps and 2 Adcom Gfa 555 mk 2 amps. I would like to power the fronts with one of the 5800s for each speaker. The center with one of the 555s and the rears with the other. Can this be done and if so how? The Studio 100s are power hungry so I thought the more power the better?

EZ. However, you first have to decide if you want to bridge or biamp the front three. Those Adcom stereo amps can be set to be bridged (see the manuals) for lots more single-channel power with one input and one output. OTOH, some people would prefer to use each channel separately wired to the HF or LF portions of each speaker but that requires a Y-connector to send the input to both channels and 2 speaker cables per speaker.

All this should be in the amp's manual.

Thanks for the information. I was wondering if bridging or using Y-connector is better. Are one of these two methods more commonly used or is it a personal preference.Im looking for the best sound and sometimes I like to crank up the volume, for dvd concerts. Since I do have the amps I figured i would use them, or does this seem like overkill ?

You should not bi-amp without using an active cross-over, before the power amps. And that only makes sense if you can defeat the cross-over of the speakers, and electrically de-couple the elements -- and then match the ideal cross-over for the speakers with your active cross-over. Lots of fiddly work.

If all you need is more power, and not another three-week three-thousand-dollar project, then I suggest you bridge. It's generally a Good Thing when you basically need more power, rather than changing the voice of your speakers.

So,would bridging these amps and my Studio 100s be a safe bet. This wont do damage to my speakers will it? Th e 555mk2 bridged is like 600 watts is this too much for my CC-470 ?

Are you suffering from amp clipping or other power limitations now?

Nope! Just playing with the thought of possibly getting more or better sound. My room is only 17x18 not that large. I was using a Dennon 3806 along with one of the 5800 amps to power the LF of my Studio 100s. I watch a lot of dvd concerts at high listening levels. I like it loud and clear. After playing concerts like the Eagles farewell tour and having a few cold ones, I was always turning the volume up and during the solos the 3806 was shutting down . Its was burning up in an air conditioned room. Just looking to fill the room with more sound, and not worry about crankin up the volume!

No need for bridging or biamping.
