I have a big problem with my old Mitsubishi CS-2710 27" monitor.
I was watching TV yesterday when suddenly the picture went out and I had no more picture and audio! Interestingly, when I switch to line input I could still hear the sound from my VCR connected to the TV.
Can you tell me what's wrong? Do I have a blown tube or power supply? Or are the capacitors around the power supply going bad? I still hear the slight "buzz" of the power supply from the TV when it's powered on.
If it's the tube, then I will probably have to retire my old TV. :( I'll probably end up getting a VIZIO VO32L 32" HDTV panel instead. :D
I have a Mitsubishi CS2014, it had no picture because the soldering was bad on the CRT board Filament pins. When the set is on, you should see the 3 filaments lit dimly orange. Sound was on, though. It could be power supply failure, capacitors, or another solder joint on the main board. (After years of CRT, you may like a plasma set better, buy what you like best..)

One thing I'm seriously considering is having the set fixed at a local repair shop, if they can fix it for under US$200. Problem is, if they have to replace any substantial parts, especially the flyback transformer that drives the tube, the repair cost could WAY exceed US$200 easily (or even not fixable due to lack of spare parts! Remember, the CS2710 I own dates from 1992 and I'm not sure if any repair shop has parts for a TV that old!) and it'll be cheaper in the long run to just get a new display altogether. I'm watching for after-Christmas sales on new 32" or 37" LCD panels. :)

Good news! I got my TV fixed for under US$100--the repair shop found a couple of bad capacitors and swapping them for new ones made the TV work again. :D
That's great news, and quick turnaround! Now, if you want to go HDTV, you can take your time looking around.

That's why I am starting to look for a good 37" LCD panel. Alas, that's the largest I can use because I have no space in my family room for anything larger. :( I'm seriously considering getting a VIZIO VO37LF from Costco.
I was curious if there were any plasmas in 37" found none. Insignia and Vizio have 720P plasma 32". Many 37" LCD to choose from, though:) Maybe you can compare the Vizio to a Panasonic or Sony. Vizio has price advantage..
