So, moving into a new apartment in Feb. The place is a condo that he owner couldn't sell on the market, so decided to rent. Looking at options to make it more ht friendly then my current set up.

The first issue is cables. I really don't want exposed cables running all over the floors for the surround speakers. Any ideas?

Second issue - seating. Looking for home theater seating that could also double as a regular living room/den couch.

Any other suggestions you have to trick out the place for 1k or less would be great!

Few pics of the space

Could you please do a simple overhead drawing showing dimensions, window and door openings and electrical outlets as well as your planned seating with rough dimensions. Also what size display you'll be using. Thanx

Do you have any equipment at all? What are you wanting your 1k to get you? As far as theater seating a standard couch or love seat or heck even your favorite comfy recliner will serve movie duty just fine. As far as having wires running all over the place the only wires you would really have running anywhere where they could be annoying or problematic would be the rear or side surrounds and you can actually find wireless rear speakers and the wire problem would be solved.

Are the most important pieces of information needed.

As for the wire issue, if you are friendly with the owner and there is a basement or crawlspace, ask if he would mind if you ran wires in wall. He may even like having the room wired for the future. If that isn't an option, Home Depot/Lowe's will have casing to conceal it. Its not perfectly clean, but if done right it won't stand out or look out of place.

As for seating, I'm a fan of loveseats or couches that recline. They strike a good balance between comfort, utility, and looks. In my personal opinion a nice comfortable seat is just as important as a nice sound system or display, but its all subjective so just go out shopping and try things out.

One recommendation I would make is curtains.

With all the light you've got coming in, you'll need something to control it when watching TV. Secondly, you've got A LOT of hard surfaces in there that will KILL your surround sound imaging (I'm guessing you've got heavy echo - right?). I know that curtains aren't as exciting as new gear, but I think they would improve the HT performance of that room in a big way...

Linens & Things is going out of business, so you may be able to get some standard size curtains fairly cheap if you move quickly...
