View Full Version : What January 2009 BDs Releases Are You Planning to Purchase
OldCodger73 12-22-08, 03:57 PM What January 2009 BD titles are you planning on purchasing? I bought more than I planned in November and December so I'm really cutting back in January, plus there aren't that many titles that appeal to me.

The Pink Panther (Original 1964 Peter Sellers release)
Buy at a later date:
The Last Emperor
Rental:
French Connection
Zodiac
Morpheo 12-22-08, 04:23 PM -Apaloosa

(iirc The French Connection will be released on feb 24th...?)
spectator 12-22-08, 04:29 PM I may bite on Pinocchio, but that's the only one scheduled for January I want right now. I'm hoping some more interesting stuff will still be announced.
I'm really waiting for Raging Bull in February and Walkabout in March. :)
mumbles3k 12-22-08, 04:36 PM January's a really bad month for Blu-ray. Just DOMINO and ANY GIVEN SUNDAY for me.
DCSholtis 12-22-08, 04:39 PM I may go for the French version of The Pink Panther due to the different color of the case. It's kind of.....different.
Another_Dude 12-22-08, 04:42 PM I'll be picking up Days of Thunder on 12/30 and watching it throughout January...does that count?

WHOA! Got a link on Braveheart? Thats a biggie for MANY. Sure I hope just missed that MAJOR news - instant purchase. =)
Jan looks slow. Nice time to recoup ($) I suppose...
King Kong
Bourne Trilogy
EDIT: Might add Zodiac DC as a blind buy. Been reading reviews, many of them give it friggin' 5 outta 5 stars, sounds great.
Cannot wait for the Australian release of Wall-E. It'll be the first BD title I get that i've never seen before, as I can't find a bad review on the movie & the clips i've seen have cracked me up. The quality reviews of the BD release have got me drooling.
January's a really bad month for Blu-ray.
Agreed, I don't really see any must buys for me. Feb & March look light as well.
King Kong is tempting, but I'm trying to avoid buying blu-rays is I already own the dvds.
Igor may be a rental for the kids.
Pinocchio includes a SD dvd as well. That's smart, as families would be interested in playing this in the car, portable dvd players, grandma's house, etc.
JaylisJayP 12-22-08, 09:06 PM Saw V...among others.
That's right.
townofturley 12-22-08, 09:18 PM I'll be picking up Days of Thunder on 12/30 and watching it throughout January...does that count?

Officer Steve 12-22-08, 10:20 PM Braveheart's coming to blu-ray? Must have missed that. I'll buy that one.
Kong:: will drop in price in a reasonable amount of time, I'll buy it then. I think that is the best looking HD movie....The kong vs. T-rex scene is stunningly 3d looking to me.

I've already got the Bourne films and Zodiac on HD DVD, so I don't think I'll double-dip anytime soon. Also, a lot of the titles people are mentioning aren't coming out in January, like Braveheart, Office Space, Taxi Driver, etc.
tvine2000 12-23-08, 04:11 PM Braveheart's coming to blu-ray? Must have missed that. I'll buy that one.

Erik Tracy 12-24-08, 12:57 PM I thought Chronicles of Riddick was rumoured for Jan 09 release.
Oh well, patience is a virtual pain... or virtue...whatever... :p
circumstances 12-24-08, 05:05 PM i wonder when pulp fiction will get a US release on blu.
SirDrexl 12-24-08, 06:04 PM i wonder when pulp fiction will get a US release on blu.
Maybe it will come when Inglourious Basterds is out. Hopefully Jackie Brown will be released as well.
MSmith83 12-24-08, 06:13 PM I thought Chronicles of Riddick was rumoured for Jan 09 release.
Oh well, patience is a virtual pain... or virtue...whatever... :p
For what it's worth, it will be released in the UK on February 2.
robertc88 01-01-09, 12:00 PM I have some unopened BDs so January will be catch-up month for me primarily for viewing those. I have King Kong on HD-DVD but I may triple up on this one as I have the SD DVD as well. Time will time but I'm really not planning to pick up many if any BDs at all.
I also have the Bourne films on HD DVD so another pass on that also.
sharkcohen 01-01-09, 01:03 PM Ark of Truth. There's nothing else for me that I would want to buy at this time. Where are my Star Trek films?
bobbyg1983 01-01-09, 03:08 PM Last Emperor
Pink Panther
Pineapple Express
think those three will satisfy me for January. I got enough new titles for christmas that I'll be playing catch-up watching them all anyways. (Band of Brothers, Mad Men S:1, Godfather Trilogy, Chunking Express, Bottle Rocket, The Third Man, Man Who Fell To Earth, Reservoir Dogs)
marinesciguy 01-01-09, 03:44 PM Only thing that is jumping out at me so far as a must have is Ghost in the Shell 2: Innocence. I may finally get around to picking up Mirrormask and House of Fury since there aren't many other buys this month.
OldCodger73 01-02-09, 01:55 PM Last Emperor
Pink Panther
Pineapple Express

Out of curiosity, which Pink Panther, the Steve Martin one or the original Peter Sellers 1964 release?
William 01-02-09, 02:09 PM 1. Drumline ( I bet this is gonna look absolutely beautiful in High Def )...
I can't believe that Fox is releasing this semi-obscure film on BD. This will probably be THE best demo disc yet. The Georgia Dome scene has some of the most vivid colors and the lossless audio is going to be a slugfest that will shine and give any system a TRUE workout. Anyone who has any doubt just pick up the DVD for cheap and you will see that it will be worth Fox's over priced amount for the BD. This should be a MUST own for all HT/audio enthusiasts. I'm in (Drum)line for this one.
Do yourself a favor - buy, don't rent, Zodiac. It is that good.
darkjedi664 01-02-09, 06:03 PM Only thing that is jumping out at me so far as a must have is Ghost in the Shell 2: Innocence. I may finally get around to picking up Mirrormask and House of Fury since there aren't many other buys this month.I'd be interested to see how the difference in PQ in to the original GITS2 release, as that was great!
King Kong. That was my first HD-DVD purchase of not so many HD-DVDs(came with the 360 player).
I may bite on Pinocchio, but that's the only one scheduled for January I want right now...
Sorry to be the bearer of bad news but Pinocchio isn't due out til March 10th.
MJeeves 01-05-09, 05:39 PM King Kong
Max Payne
Bourne
Braveheart
Unfaithful (great movie!)
Notebook
Serenity
Wheres this crazy Braveheart rumor coming from?
