trying to choose between th 58pz800u and 50pz85u . I know bigger is better, but I can get the 50 for almost half the cost of 58. I now have a 42 720p ,so both will be bigger and 1080p. having a hard time justifying 1400.00 more for 8" of screen, but also afraid to spend the money and not get what i want. any help is appreciated!:)
Impossible to answer without knowing how far you will be sitting from the display. That should determine the best size for you.

It also depends on what kind of a person you are? If your one that can say to yourself the 50" is big enough & I saved $1,400 go for the 50" but if your the kind of person who is going to be kicking yourself for the life of the tv & saying I should of got the 58" then the 58" is the only one to buy.
Hate to say it but with next year's new Panasonic Panel coming out I would'nt spend a lot on money on a 2008 model but that's just me.
That's why I went with the Panny 50" PX80 for my daughter this year & next year I'll replace it with a the new Panny Break-Through Panel.

Ask yourself going from 50" to 58" would be 34% difference in picture size. Going from 42" to 58" is a 91% difference in screen size. The impact will be felt going from this size. The 58" is a very nice display and compared to the competition is seems to be a good price. The question that you arise is it worth the $1400, I would say yes, but others will tell you to save. It will depend on viewing position that would make the 58" your choice to go with.

I agree with creemail, it all depends on the seating distance. Yet again, the price tag of an additional $1400 is not small either.
From a 42" to a 50" from 11 feet away you will certainly see a difference. How quickly you get used to the size is another story to be told. If you can afford the additional $1400 for the 58" then the difference will be enormous, but then you will quickly get used to that size as well and wonder why you did not go with 60+ inches.....with flat screens, big is never enough. :)
