View Full Version : Plasma radiation
gamer222 12-24-08, 09:43 PM hey everyone, I have a Pioneer PDP-4280 and lately iv been spending more time playing video games and watching tv and I notice after a couple hours I feel a warm burning like feeling in my mouth and tongue. I think it's the radiation coming off the tv. Has anyone else had this happen to them and how much danger could it be to your health?

vancruiser 12-24-08, 10:00 PM Probably best that you stop using your set before you do any permanent damage to yourself. I can provide safe disposal for it, however you'll have to cover the shipping charges since it's so hazardous. PM me for my address, you can just ship it here and I'll make sure it's properly taken care of.
RandyWalters 12-24-08, 10:56 PM hey everyone, I have a Pioneer PDP-4280 and lately iv been spending more time playing video games and watching tv and I notice after a couple hours I feel a warm burning like feeling in my mouth and tongue. I think it's the radiation coming off the tv. Has anyone else had this happen to them and how much danger could it be to your health? There isn't any radiation coming from the set, so your warm burning feeling is being caused by something else :)
ogbuehi 12-24-08, 11:04 PM My guess is that the tv is causing you to spend more time playing games and watch tv causing you to drink less water. Without drinking all the water you used to drink you are now experiencing what is known as dehydration.
gamer222 12-24-08, 11:06 PM maybe but the tv itself does make my living room really really warm
OgieOglethorp 12-24-08, 11:13 PM You're not chilling your beer properly. Drink at 40 degrees.
simplemath 12-24-08, 11:37 PM The guys that died of radiation sickness that were at the scene of Chernobyl, did not have these symptoms you are describing....they died within a week...there is no hazard coming off your tv. LOL.
older plasmas give off some heat from the panel, but this is just heat.

Lay off the cocaine man!
In all seriousness, the flux compactor in your set could be causing your mouth to burn, they have a tendency to act up during the winter. If I were you, I would go see your local physician asap!
Pull your tongue in, close your mouth, and sit .33 metres further away.
Maybe watch/play some more mundane shows/games for a while as well.
Dr. Pill
PS...Happy Holidays to you and yours
nolanski 12-24-08, 11:51 PM Well obviously you need to switch to an LCD display NOW!
derek533 12-25-08, 12:11 AM Lay off the bottle for a while. You'll feel better and that tv actually might look more impressive than it already does.
uni_panther 12-25-08, 01:23 AM Plasmas will give off a lot of heat. I can put my arm about 1 foot away from my 151 and feel the warmth but it isn't radiation. The tv isn't your problem. You are probably just getting sick or dehydrated and it coincides with your increased gaming time. The tv is not a health problem though.
JBDragon 12-25-08, 03:28 AM Plasma's get HOT! There's 5 fans in the back top of my Plasma. It's heat from the hot parts. It's NOT Radiation. There's more Radiation given off on a CRT(TUBE) type SDTV!
But take a read here on Plasma Myths!!!

joemama127 12-25-08, 11:49 AM No radiation from plasma. There may be some EMI emitted from the backside...you don't sit behind it do you?:D
dav65mus 12-25-08, 12:53 PM There is a new game out now that shows what your nieghborhood will look like if too many people run their plasma t.v.'s at the same time.
It's called fallout3.:D
At least that's what some of the people on the "other" forum here think.;)
But what happened to the radiation suit that came with your plasma?
My plasma came with one and said in the instructions to NEVER turn on the set without having the suit on.:)
Happy holidays everybody

lol! :D
gamer222 12-25-08, 02:32 PM YES i mean EMI not "radiation". EMI the silent killer
simplemath 12-25-08, 03:21 PM Holding the emi generator called a cell phone to your head an hour a day is far worse than watching a kuro. EMI is the unproven "silent killer"
do you get radio reception from your dental fillings too?
