I'm interested to find out if the Best Buy Black Friday model, the 50" Panasonic TH-50PE8U, that I recently purchased is 480Hz or not.

There's no solid information on the panel other than that it may be a 50PX80U or a PX75U with a different model number.

My receipt from buying it says "Pana 480Hz 720p Plasma", but that's the only place it says it. Nowhere in the documentation, manuals, or online information says anything.

If someone knows or could provide me with some more information, I'd appreciate it. I'm extremely happy with the TV I just want to know more about it. I paid a hair over $700 for the TV so I just want to know everything about it.

Thanks.

480hz does not mean the tv refreshes at 480hz...it just means the screen is divided up into 8 sections with each section refreshing at 60hz 8x60=480hz....its still just a 60hz tv...just mumbo jumbo to help sway people from the 120hz lcd jargin

I understand that, and know what Sub-Field drive is. I'm just asking if this TV really has that feature.

Nope. If it did, there would probably be a huge thread talking about what 480hz does or doesn't do.

My sarcasm meter must be turned off. I don't understand what you're saying.

He is saying if there was really a 480hz Plasma, like the 120hz LCD's that people would be talking about it all over, Positive or Negative. Since there is nothing about it, it's meaningless. Plasma's don't work like LCD's. Plasma's don't really need these faster hz speeds because they don't have the problems LCD's do. The whole 120hz thing hasn't been all that positive either. It's Marketing B.S. If it looks great, who the hell cares what hz it is. Go watch your movies.

Call Panasonic & ask them & if the customer service rep. can't find it in their computers ask to talk to a Panny Tech. they can usually tell you or find out for you.

I think all Panasonic plasmas use 480hz subfields, even ones that are years old. As others said, this is meaningless anyway. They are just misrepresenting stuff to compete with 120hz LCDs.
