I bought an ECS A740GM-M MB and am trying to use it as a frontend for mythtv. I'm not having any luck with the video. Checking AMD/ATI website doesn't show this board being supported by their linux drivers. I can SD to play pretty good using their driver, but not an HD stream. Anyone have a 740G chipset board working in HD with mythtv?

Generally ATI is not recommended for Linux. They just don't accommodate us for drivers. nVidia is much better; get the 9300 or 9400.

I just couldn't pass up this deal. $65 for the MB and X2 5600+. I know I could use an Nvidia board as I have 3 of them already, 6100, 6150, 7050PV. I want to get this to work if possible. It's a spare. I found one post about adding some options in xorg. Will try that next.

That's using Mythbuntu 8.04 and the ati fglrx driver. Smooth playback even when fast forwarding. Used the normal playback setup and also another I configured using other renderers. Both work great so far. If i run into any other problems I'll post them here. Oh, sound didn't work out of box. had to change that too. Several things work. Right now I'm using /dev/dsp with /dev/master I think. Anyway it's works good too now. Had that working earlier.
