View Full Version : Savage Moon, best tower defence game so far.
for the 8 euro i paid it is a nice game.
if you like tower defense games a bit mature. then this is it.
pixel garden monsters is also a great tower defense game, but i like the more mature graphics and gameplay elements of Savage moon.
for example. the upgrades, the different towers. air assault. mines, also all tower upgrades change in form. it is not just a color. when you make a level4 tower you get a big tower with a big phat rocket :)
what is also a pretty cool addition is that you can add walls in the paths this way you can reroute the enemy hordes.
also when you click on a tower and wait you will get a 3D view. if this is actually more useful then a gimmick i dont know yet.
i have not yet got to even higher upgrades of weapons. but should be fun :)
so far passed 2 levels and like it a lot. perfect game for play for 20 - 30 mins. then go over to the serious stuff.
only thing i disliked was that you sometimes have to wait to long of a time for the next horde comes. i was hoping i could speed up that a bit. maybe it is actually possible. have not tried that out yet.
for 8 euro this game is the right price.
i cant see somebody downloading this game and complaining about it when they like tower deference games.
funsocaltiger 12-29-08, 03:19 PM Thanks for the input. I was wondering what ever happened to this game. I don't think it has been released in NA yet.
PJ_Rage 12-29-08, 03:40 PM I love tower defense games. I was hooked on them in warcraft 3. I too find pixel junk mosters to be a good one, but I would prefer at least another 5 towers. Preferably another 10-20 and ideally like 50. I loved Element TD for example in warcraft 3 where you had so many possibilities to beat it. It was great. I'm all ears for another TD - I'll have to give this one a shot. Thanks for the mini-review.
i just played it further and i can some sweet updates on it.
at level 3 you get explained how you can use certain skills.
for example you could add that you gain more money when shooting enemies but this will lower your defences of your towers as well as your attacks. so this gives another strategy in the game.
so there is actually more this game then meets the eye. it is deep. not complete deep. but more then just arcade like.
also so far every level is 14 waves, so you have an idea how to strategies your ways.
anyway back to playing.
The ability to build walls to route enemies sounds awesome, but the videos for this game make the menus appear kind of cumbersome, which turns me off a bit; I love how slick and efficient Pixeljunk Monsters is. Any comment on that? I hope they have a demo for this, because I really dig Monsters (the only tower defense game I've played).

I second this post/question. I am curious myself. I've been curious about this game ever since downloading the trailer, but I want to know how it stacks up to Monsters, which was excellent in it's simplicity, IMO.

MirkoJXR 12-29-08, 04:55 PM is there an option for two players? i hope so... my and the gf love this type of game.
I really dig Monsters (the only tower defense game I've played).
never tried Desktop Tower Defense? simple, yet way too addictive.

I tried it once back when it first got traction on the web, I didn't really like it too much. Then again, I was on a laptop at the time without a mouse.
well the menu is easy and difficult at same time.
for example. navigation is a breeze for selecting units.
upgrading units is easy too. you just select the unit on the battlefield press o and if you have enough money you press again 0 button and it upgrades.
however what is problematic is the research section.
you need to press 0 then 2 times up on digital pad. then you see stuff you can research. normally you would think i press right to go to the next research. but no does not work that way. you need to press down and up. and that is confusing. not completely problematic , but if your mind expects to go right and you need to press up or down is weird.
that said except for that problem i like this game a lot.
unfortunate there is no co op mode in this game or any multiplayer at all. that would have been definitely on my list as well.
DubBucket 01-14-09, 06:32 PM IGN (http://ps3.ign.com/objects/142/14273870.html) has the release date at January 15th, so should we be expecting it this Thursday? If it's going for 10 bucks I'll probably pick it up, as a cool 3D tower defense game sounds like just the ticket during this relative drought of game releases.

Overall, Savage Moon’s greatest fault is its compliance to the tower defense formula; players seeking genre innovation may be slightly disappointed. However, players that haven’t been fatigued by the game model will find plenty of enjoyment in Fluffylogic’s title. Engineering a system of alien annihilation systems has seldom felt so satisfying.

Drought? What drought? I've got such a backlog of games right now I can't even keep up.

"...of game releases." I've got plenty to work through too. Maybe it's my ADD acting up, but I like to have something shiny and new to toy with occasionally between long Fallout/SOCOM/Valkyria sessions :p
bplewis24 01-14-09, 10:22 PM A one-month drought. Pretty sweet

i finished the game with all trophies. for me it was the best game i ever had downloaded from the PS strore. it is very well balanced game. also the graphics are very nice when you power up to the max. you really have these huge canons etc. it is awesome :)
let me just say that after the first 3 tutorial levels the game becomes hard but fair.
the most difficult level is 3.2 that level is insane hard. i cant wait till people buy this game and come on this forum to ask how to beat that level. the level is so brutal to get a 100% score. still it is possible :)
goodluck
maximuslcd 01-15-09, 09:14 AM Is this a PSN game? if so it loks pretty sweet. I had no idea monsters was the same kind of game.

It IS a drought if you are not into FPS's. Not counting PSN games I was only enticed enough to buy four games in 2008. Assasins Creed, Burnout:Paradise, MGS4, and LBP. And of those wasn't AC released in 07? If you do like FPS games then you're probably loving it all but not me. Hell, I tried and did not care for the syle of RPG that is Oblivion so I'm not going to wasdte $60 on Fallout 3.
On topic though I may give this game a try. It looksl ike it'll be a fun little time waster along with the handful of other PSN games I have built up.

Can you pick a difficulty level at all? Easy/Normal/Hard? Or is it just one setting like how PJ Monsters originally was?
rgdigital 01-16-09, 10:53 AM Man, I'm really looking forward to this game -when is it coming out?
DubBucket 01-16-09, 01:25 PM Man, I'm really looking forward to this game -when is it coming out?
Bleh, it was originally announced for "Fall" of '08, it's already out in EU, and IGN said it came out yesterday... But it's not available yet, bummer.
rgdigital 02-02-09, 02:03 PM It's out, and it's fun. I'm already getting stuck on the 2nd planet's levels.
Anybody else playing this?
ludawg23 02-02-09, 03:11 PM not having 2 player co-op stinks as my gf loved pixeljunk monsters.
Sounds fun though, i'll give this a shot whenever I have some free time.
Fun game, I like it better than PJM, must be the RTS look (real 3D world) and Starship Troopers vibe.
Thoughts so far:
-Easily worth $10
-Graphics are decent, you can rotate the map around and zoom in/out
-I agree with an above poster on the "starship troopers" vibe
-Has an in-game tutorial that definitely helps
-Is a good game to jump right into and have fun for 15min, or play for a couple hours. You can select the normal game mode where you progress from planet to planet with a certian # of waves to survive, or the 'Vengeance' mode where you pick a level and try to survive as long as you can against unlimited waves
-When "bugs" make it past your defenses, they damage your base and you can spend money to repair it
-Later levels get more challenging, "bugs"can shoot back and destroy your towers
-The wall placing/rerouting is definitely a key factor in success or failure
-I've put about five hours into the game and still haven't unlocked all the turrets(I think certain turrets are limited to certain levels but I could be wrong) I have not finished the game yet.
-Only one player. My girlfriend LOVES pixel junk monsters but thinks this game is dumb looking. The game is less interactive, you just have a cursor instead of a little guy running around collecting everything so I think it takes away the appeal to casual gamer
-I would say that overall it is a faster paced tower defense game than most others and the menu/interface is easy to use and plays well with the faster pace. It doesn't really do anything new that redefines the genre, but it is a fun game
