View Full Version : Amahi Linux Home Server cchierici 12-30-08, 12:34 AM Found "Amahi Linux Home Server " on my quest for my media server distro, seems interesting, has anybody used this? Shunopoli 04-20-09, 03:19 PM I use this everday. I am developer there I can answer questions that you might have. Ask away cchierici 04-20-09, 05:03 PM Hi Shu, I posted that a few months back, but since January, have installed and been using Amahi. It's been great! The support on the IRC channel and Forums has been real good and they keep cranking out new stuff all the time. I love it so far and am surprised that it's such a "secret". Anybody who would like to know more can check it out here: http://www.amahi.org/ Shunopoli 04-20-09, 05:22 PM We are constantly release updates to this. The original owner is active in the IRC channel as along with me. I am currently working on packaging the ps3medaplayer as a on click install for it. cchierici 04-20-09, 06:30 PM Ya I know, sometimes it's hard to keep up. I was wondering if you guys plan to incorporate mythTV into your HDA setup. If that could be done, I bet that a lot of new users would come your way. The other feature that would be great is if Amahi could come pre-packaged, out of the box and be used as a web server. I know that there are a lot of security concerns that would have to be put in place, but...... one can hope :) Shunopoli 04-20-09, 10:46 PM From what I understand we are working on mythtv. I believe we ar ironing out some bugs. Let me ask around and see what the status of this is and I will update this post cchierici 04-22-09, 11:05 PM Thanks, let me know what you found out. I see they got V3.0 up and running. http://blog.amahi.org/2009/04/22/the-hits-keep-on-coming/ It's been working fine on my box cchierici 05-03-09, 02:46 PM Ya, I just heard they are inches from releasing MythTv as one click install zicoz 05-15-09, 01:02 AM How easy is it to set this up with 2 NICs? I'm currently using OpenSolaris, but it's a horror to get it working with 2 NICs so I'm looking for something else. And how is the Upnp support comming along? cchierici 05-15-09, 01:52 PM Check this thread out at the Amahi forum http://forums.amahi.org/viewtopic.php?f=8&t=77. This may help..or not : ). If it doesn't ask your question, they are responsive and helpful. Right now they are using Ushare for upnp, it works with my son's xbox 360. I have heard there are a couple of hiccups, but I have not experienced any myself, although I don't have occasion to need it much. You can find out about at there web site and forums. Have a look, it's a great product and is getting better all the time angedc 12-09-10, 02:30 PM Old thread, but with WHS v2 (Vail) blowing up, I'm taking a look at Amahi. It seems that it works best if the server takes over DNS and DHCP functions. I have FIOS with that actiontek router, and I don't konw too much about networking. I wonder if it is feasible to get Amahi working including DNS and DHCP in that environment. Anyone have experience? Thanks, Andy cchierici 12-09-10, 03:51 PM I have had great success with this product and I have have had no problems turning over DNS and DCHP. It does work best when you let the HDA take over the routers duties. I don't have FIOS, But I did a quick search on their forums and found this http://forums.amahi.org/viewtopic.php?f=8&t=744&p=3782&hilit=FIOS#p3782 , among others. There have been some problems with FIOS. I would post a couple of questions on their forums and see what comes up jchusky77 01-29-11, 09:01 AM Hi, I have been looking at the Amahi home server for a long time. I now notice that it has an app for DLNA through Amahi Tunes. Here is my situation...just got my home theater hooked up. My blu-ray is a basic samsung 3d that comes in that 55" tv package. It has wi-fi. Currently it is on my network, and I can see my main desktop on there. However, when I hit go view movies, it says there is no video loaded. Will the amahi server take care of this? Im not familiar at all with DLNA or home networking, but Id like to get some storage and have a server send the signal out. I know I have a lot of reading to do, but Id like to know first if Im going in the right direction. So, will the Amahi Server with DLNA be able to stream my movies on my network to the blu-ray player to play in my home theater?? Thanks in advance! cchierici 01-29-11, 11:54 AM Yes is the short answer. DLNA is a upnp server see http://wiki.amahi.org/index.php/DLNA. Amahi also ships with a samba server, which I use for my media frontend. Both will allow you to see your movies and listen to music. It also comes with storage pool technology, called Greyhole http://wiki.amahi.org/index.php/Greyhole. See their wiki for more info, maybe go to there IRC channel and ask a few questions, they are very helpful |
