I've searched but can't seem to find an answer to my problem.

I recently bought a PS3. I've got my wireless network operating correctly, I think. The PS3 reads music folders from my desktop PC. All of the music is WMA format, 192kbps. All of the music plays normally on the desktop using Windows Media Player 11. However, some of the files play on the PS3, some don't. Some files get the "Unsupported Data" message.

I've got WMA playback enabled on the PS3. And I used a Microsoft Windows utility to make sure that all the music licenses on the desktop are renewed. File sharing is turned on.

I see where some of the files are "Protected" when looking at properties, some are not. Is this the problem or something else? Any way to remove protection from these files?

It's the protected issue. Only way to remove the drm is to re-rip them, or burn those songs to cd/dvd, then rip them without drm.
