I have a Sony SS-WS82 Passive subwoofer, purchased as part of a Home Theater-in-a-box system. I never planned to use the system as is and I purchased a Sony STRDG710 Receiver along with it.

As this is my first system ever, I didn't anticipate the problem of the passive subwoofer. It is rated for 1.5ohm and only has one set of positive/negative click-fit input. I've toyed with the idea of plugging it into the same ports along with the front speakers but I don't know if this is safe.

How can I make this work?

I've since learned from a reliable source that I need to purchase an external amp to make this work, but I'm still not sure what I need to get as far as volts/watts/amps, etc. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
