I remember seeing an interview on the special effects they used in that movie to get that perfect ripple in the glass. IIRC They couldn't get it quite right with using just vibrations from an impact, so they placed a guitar string under the dashboard supporting the glass. When they wanted the ripple in the water they would pluck the guitar string.

Anywho, it must be harder to re-create that by placing the glass on the sub. From what I understand most sub cabinets are made so they cut down on vibrations. Putting the glass on the floor probably would have made the glass bounce.

I watched the DVD extras I was rather surprised that a few simple plucks of the guitar string creates the disable effect.

I would hardly doubt even at Skywalker Sound that they tried the same idea when mixing the film back in 1993.

I suppose if you placed the plastic cup with a little bit of water and turned the sub upside down and placed it on the dust cap yeah it will vibrate, if not knock the cup over as this is the most part of the area that moves. Or place the sub on the far end of the room and place it on table to see if the water ripples slightly?

Also I don’t think the frequency on the LCR and LFE.1 will create the same ripple pattern due to the frequency.

I’ll try it out later in the day, doubt I’d get much joy out of it, can’t video it with clear enough image, camera is poor for artifice light conditions, I need 200watt light! Still I’ll give it spin on DVD later on.

That thing used to dance I'm sure if I placed a cup of water on top I would have had all kinds of ripples. With a well braced cabinet it will be a lot more difficult. I believe Mark Seaton uses a penny standing on its side to show the solidity with the Submersive.

Just tried the 1 pence technique placed on its side and it didn’t move one millimetre with the rumbling opening of Independence Day as the mother ship rumbles deeply all-around. That’s one heck of solid MFD enclosure my mate built. Okay let’s try “Jurassic Park” now with the 1 pence and plastic measure container filled with some water.

Oh, I’ll try it with (Jurassic Park III 2001) if Jurassic Park 1993 doesn’t give me any positive results.:D

Oh, I like it LOL on the John Williams opening with the LFE.1 track I saw a nice ripple that I have frequency waterfall that I took last year of the opening.

Might try sine wave as that is by far the simplest way to see ripples I saw a rather neat technique with salt or sand on (youtube) with the grains placed on metal sheet with tones being pitched crated wonderful patterns.

i also remember reading that the director got the idea of the vibrating mirror when he was driving and blasting music in his car, he noticed his rear view mirror was vibrating

for some reason, i think he said he was blasting fleetwood mac but i'm not 100% of that lol

The House Wins with JBL 4645 LOL, LOL :D oh, dear that was too funny. LOL placed a few Casino Royale 007 playing cards together and tried the cannon thingy explosion from Jurassic Park they collapsed, think goodness the building is stronger than the cards. LOL

I could have used the camera to shoot video but the light level is too poorly for it to register, I’d need natural sunlight during the morning with the blinds open to get video any reasonable amount of video footage.

I think this is getting a little obscured now LOL I must have tried the plastic water measuring container in four different areas.

Front area of floor no results with ripples yet I can feel it, in my feet.
Rear floor area same results as above.
On the edge of the arm sofa same as above, yet I can feel it in the sofa.
On top of the refrigerator in the kitchen same as above yet I can feel the refrigerator as its against the wall to the living room.

Hmm now it worked when placing it on the desk in front of me, I can see the ripples, weird unless it has something to do with the structural strength of the desk or other?

I might try string next not sure if I have enough money to buy some string from the show around the corner?
