I played Midway on my PC. It was fun, but the online crowd wasn't as numerous as the 360's apparently. Though I did pay $20 less for it, and the DLC (when it finally showed up) was free. It's clear the game was developed for a console primarily, and the controls on a keyboard/mouse just don't do it justice. Even using a ps2 controller hooked into my PC didn't really feel right.

I don't own a 360, but if I were to get one, I would probably check this one out.

Uncle by marriage. My dad's dad was in the Pacific theater though.

My family sucks at war.

One great uncle died in a training accident (last one out of the B-17), and another great uncle died when he was hit by a drunk driver in Britain.

Researching this now from what I found my grandpa and one of his brothers was stateside during the war. One brother made it through the war arriving in Europe 6 to 8 days after D-Day and manned an anti-tank gun. The other brother was a cook's aide/driver/tank machine gunner in the 41st under Patton since Africa. I believe he was one of the most decorated men from WWII in Louisiana.

Back on topic though, Midway is an awesome game, cant wait for the new one.

What is everyones thought on the previous installment? Is Midway still a blast to play? Thinking of picking this up for my dad and I since its only 15 bucks at gamestop so we can do some online co-op.

Great game for guys like us I guess. I really liked it. Online was fun on the 360 if you could get a few friends together and actually work together. Saddly not as many friends as I would've hoped liked or played it.

Maybe we can get a group together from here.

Definitely a good game to play with a group of friends. When Midway came out there was a group of 4 of us that used to play together all the time.

I had planned to pick this up (Midway) when it first came out, but I never got around to it. After seeing this thread, decided to go ahead and check it out. It seems to be a well made game. Found it for a decent price so am now plowing my way thru it. Hopefully it will hold my attention and not become repetitive. I am more interested in the single player game so have not tried to go online and see if there were still people doing multiplayer.

So, looking at the trailers, the gameplay is part RTS and part sim? Can you drive ships around in formation and whatnot? If so I am all over this.

Lord_Zath
04-28-09, 07:16 PM
yes but it's more arcade/action oriented than strategy/rts. Try downloading the demo for Battlestations Midway. It'll play out very similarly.

Alot of the old Midway players on the Xbox forums are saying their extremely disappointed:(

Some are saying the graphics are bad, flying the planes is a pain, etc.

I'm a Midway addict and I like the Pacific demo. This demo is not online which is a huge disappointment. Other than that, once you get the controls down, it's a lot of fun IMO. Island capture is great and unlike the Midway game you can choose all air, all ships or any combination of the two, depending on how you want to spend your command points and what your strategy is at that point in the game. I've taught dozens of people to play the Midway demo who now love it and play regularly and this will be no different IMO. The targeting on the ships with the "Engine, Magazine and Fuel" indicators is kind of annoying, the ship repairs require a little too much baby sitting and the one zoom strength is a little off putting but other than that lots-o-fun. The online host options are supposed to be pretty extensive from what I understand so some of the annoying things (like respawning torps and bombs on planes) might be smoothed over. Here's some tips from the devs, just in case you haven't figured it all out yet :) http://www.battlestations.net/en-UK/content/demo-helpclarification

I agree...they really nerfed the planes.

Lord_Zath
05-04-09, 09:43 AM
I'm not a huge fan of the control scheme for aircraft. I just finished playing Ace Combat 6. So after I make my bombing run, I instinctively pull back on the left stick. A few seconds later, I'm either shot down, or suddenly stalling! Grr!!

TRALFAZ
05-04-09, 11:50 PM
I don't get the plane troubles. I've carpet bombed, dropped paratroopers, strafed, torpedoed and dogged fighters into the ground without any issues.

after Midway, I think I'm going to lay low for a while to see what happens. btw, there's a pretty active forum on www.battlestations.net that's devoted to this game. I'd suggest you check that out if you're interested in the game!

Great stuff other than the ridiculous icons that pop up when aiming at the ships with artillery. Other than that, it's sweet IMO. Bunches of options for the host makes for some interesting game play. If you want to read a good review, hit Team XBox because I suck at typing. Definitely worth the dough for sure.
