Both IMovie and Final Cut Express (And Final Cut Pro) all can ingest AVCHD and did in the last version of ILife. IMovie will continue to do so, by way of converting the AVCHD into AIC (Apple Intermediate Codec).

If your asking if we can do native AVCHD editing..the answer is still no.

TREX that is partly correct..

the new iMovie will allow to archive native AVCHD...meaning you wont need to convert into AIC it will save the .mts file native and be able to import and convert at a later time..not just when your cam is connected...this is a HUGE improvement

IMovie may have that feature built in to the new version, but for the time being, you can today use Disk Utility to make an image of the camera's hard drive and then use that to import from at a later date.

Sounds the same, but if they've allowed that to be done direct from IMovie, all the better ;)

yes thats what I do...create a disk image and store it like that...its not that hard but if its built in...it would be easier
