I am planning an attic antenna installation. The easiest thing for me to do is to run the coax out a soffit vent and then down to the existing cable entrance to the house. I would not have to fish anything through walls or anything else and can simply run it through the vent. However, none of the coax from Monoprice or others are rated for outdoor use. If I am simply running it down the side of the house from the attic (about a total of 10 feet exposed to the elements) do I need outdoor rated RG-6? If so, where is the best place to find some for a reasonable price? The total run would be about 40-50 feet. Thanks.

Since satellite companies, cable companies as well as antenna have been routing coax cable outside for many years I would not be cocerned if it was me.

I just wonder if they have cable that is specifically approved or whatever for outside use and if it makes a difference in signal transmission.

I've seen the cable that my local company uses to run outside, and all it really is is good quality RG6. The only thing special about it is that the run from the pole to the house has a support wire to hold the weight.

Usually black-colored coax is rated for outdoor use (UV protected). Other colors, such as white or brown, usually do not have UV inhibitors.
