Enthusiastic thumbs up. I see the creators of this show are letting the audience know that they are ambitious when they had the FBI guys saying these things take 2 to 3 years. I was waiting for past/present/future moments assuming it would be like the previous season but they held off until the end of the episode. They do change things up this season which is a welcome change since most shows just keep with exactly one method and never alter that formula.

Damages is the right word for this show as the lead characters are clearly damaged by the events of the previous season.

Great start last night. Glad to see HD although production technique results in a "grainy"
product. FX, AMC, Showtime, and to a lesser extent HBO and TNT contiue to blow the networks away with their content.

I was worried that we'd have more SD from FX HD, after The Shield, and after the two Season 1 recaps for Damages were in SD.

I'm still probably not going to watch the show right now. Too much better stuff on. However, I will record it and will probably watch it in the Spring.

It’s one of those shows that stir me up :eek: second-guessing every character’s motives. I hate that anxious feeling—especially when I have to go to sleep.

I delayed my viewing time by about 20 minutes to forward through the commercials not knowing that last nights presentation was commercial free.:rolleyes:

Yeah, I love Damages, too. I was underwhelmed from time to time last season, mostly because the combination of such difficult subject matter and having to watch the show in SD nearly wore me out. I changed my mind, though, last summer when I re-watched Season 1 on BD. Wow! It just proved to me, again, that there is no substitute for HD. Thanks to Cox OKC having added FX HD last month, I am getting to see this season's shows in HD.

The show has everything. In addition to great writing, it has a star, Glenn Close, who has 5 Oscar nominations and 3 Tonys plus an Oscar winning guest star, William Hurt. I also like Tim Olyphant a lot. He does charming but slightly, sometimes more than slightly, crazy pretty boys better than about anybody. He really grew on me as Seth Bullock in Deadwood and I thought he was terrific in both Live Free or Die Hard and Hitman.

Isn't that older guy her uncle or something? Been awhile since I watched S-1...

The older guy is named Uncle Pete. He is played by the estimable Tom Aldredge, who is an old time Broadway guy and has been nominated for multiple Tonys. He also made fairly regular appearances in The Sopranos over the years.

I liked Live Free or Die Hard, as did the viewing public. It was hugely popular and made a bunch of money. Was it dumb? Of course, it was a Bruce Willis Die Hard movie. :) I particularly enjoyed Tim Olyphant as the evil genius and the decorative Maggie Q as his kick ass henchwoman. The movie was a lot of fun.

Timothy Olyphant's character is also a lot darker... not only clippings on Frobisher but also on Ellen's fiancee as well. Maybe that's why Ellen is getting a gun, and also who she is shooting at the 6 month later point

Patty Hewes is a nasty piece of work but her sidekick Ellen Parsons is only marginally purer. In Ellens' defense, though, she has paid a big price for her perfidy, given that Patty tried to have her killed, her fiance was murdered, and she spent considerable time in jail before Patty arranged to get her off, thanks to yet another betrayal by Patty. No wonder Ellen is currently engaged in a betrayal of Patty designed to send Patty to prison. "Trust no one," indeed!

That's an excellent way to watch a show like this, and it's usually my normal viewing pattern, but I watched the first ep a week ago and was hooked, now I'm in for the weekly dosage.

That's what I love about this show, the incredible plot and character density, yet at the same time, they present it in a way that's not really that hard to follow. Quite an achievement when compared to other serialized TV.

The fact that you really have no idea who are the "good guys"(if there even is in a show like this, although, of all the characters I think Tom is probably the best of the worst) makes it especially delicious. The scene where Hurt and Harden meet in the car was a definite "whoa" moment, good stuff.

As far as some speculation, it seems somewhat apparent that part of the Hurt character plotline is to get back at Patty over the issue of their son.

As one example, the detective interrogating the William Hurt character is not the stereotypical TV crime fighter saddled with a fake new yauk accent. This actor looks straight out of the New York City Police Department. He is the exact lawman that would be knocking hard on my (NYC) door-- if I were involved in some transgression.;)

And Hollis Nye, the old lawyer played by the melodious and eloquent sounding Philip Bosco, I keep waiting for him to enlighten Ellen about the virtues of the Lexus—he’s great too.:cool:

It's true that the show's complexity and ambiguous characters are its magic. Despite Tom's loyalty to Patty and his consistent support of Ellen, both Patty and Ellen disrespect him because he is "weak." I practiced law for over 40 years and some of my partners had their faults but the worst among them looked like St. Francis of Assisi compared to Patty. Ellen has not yet reached Patty's level of monstrousness but she has come a long way toward it in less than a year of practice. Speaking of Ellen, I don't think that Rose Byrne is the world's strongest actress but she is adequate and she looks GREAT. :)

There’s a couple of days worth of entertainment to enjoy during an icy cold winter.

Surprised at the lack of chit chat here regarding this season, especially since it’s great... I guess many viewers are storing up the episodes to watch in one sitting. This is the best way to watch this show but personally, I can’t wait.

A great season wrapped up Wednesday night. Of course it was not the ending you thought they were setting you up for.

Although the season finale required more than the usual measure of suspension of disbelief, I loved it. The acting and production values could not be better. The real stars of the show, though, are its writers. Every character is so hard to pin down as either "good" or "bad," it's almost impossible to tell either what any one of them is going to do, or what is going to happen, next. The sudden, violent death of the crooked cop comes to mind.

I find fascinating how Ellen grows more and more like Patty the longer she works for her. Ellen is so tough and ruthless already, God knows what she is going to become with a little more of Patty's tutelage. Frankly, I have found Rose Byrne to be barely adequate from an acting standpoint but she is so delicately beautiful and appealing, I forgive her. :)

My wife said season 2 was way better than 1. I told her that this season we time shifted and watched following day at 6 PM and not at 10 at night. I think us being in better mental state allowed us to follow the plot better. Great Show! Great Season!

I watched most but not all of last season's shows. I missed a few because I could only get the show in SD then and the sorry PQ detracted from my enjoyment. Still, by the end of the season I was hooked.

Because of the necessity of originally having to watch Season One in SD, I checked out the BDs of that season from BB in January. Wow! It was as good a single season of television as I can remember.

I particularly enjoyed Season Two first run, not least because Cox OKC picked up FXHD right before the new season of Damages began so I am looking forward to the release of Season Two on BD.

Does anyone with Comcast have the last episode of Damages available in the On Demand menu yet? We don't have FX/HD, so I have to wait for Comcast to put up the episodes. Usually this season it would range from one day (Thursday) through Saturday, but the last episode still has not been added here in Arlington/Alexandria (DC 'burb) yet. I have it recorded in no-definition, but I'm holding out (false) hope that they might add it soon. I'm anxious to watch it.

FX is expected to premiere the third season of Damages in January 2010.
