tjk3030 01-10-09, 12:09 AM I guess he spent all his money on hardware & ran out of it for cables? Unless it is all wireless?
DougWinsor 01-10-09, 06:23 PM All that money and still no lossless audio.

It says in one of the paragraphs...
"AC power conditioning for the KSS is, again, done to the max. Next to the garage, there are two mammoth General Electric 13,800-volt/800-amp step-down transformers; all of the cabling is audiophile-grade wire, and every aspect of performance and presentation is scrutinized, even down to the 40-amp cryogenically treated circuit breakers for each and every component in the system."

That is a really, really old story from early last year. In the article he had a Sony BDP-S1 and a Tosh HD-XA1. So, he got lossless audio from PCM and Dolby TrueHD. I'm sure adding a $400 Samsung BD-P2550, a Pansonic DMP-BD55 or a SOny BD-P550 wouldn't blow the budget too much. Heck, even that $5k Denon universal player would be a drop in that theater's bucket.
6 million dollar? The room looks like a acoustic nightmare. And all the light from the tube and the amps must light up the room like hell when he wants to see a movie. At least he has the good taste of owning Pioneer HLD-X0 laserdisc player ;)
ChrisWiggles 01-11-09, 09:53 PM What I find hilarious is that Kipnis is a video moron and has no idea what he's talking about. I wouldn't let him near my theater with a ten-foot pole. But like they say, a fool and his money...
Oh and yeah, 6 million bucks, but only 1080i...
The Sony projector doesn't have HDMI inputs that are HDCP compliant, but it upscales Blu-ray and HD DVD players' component outputs to its native 4K resolution. So sure, it might look even better if he could use his HD player's digital outputs, but Kipnis feels the picture quality he's getting right now is "far more outstanding and realistic than any other movie theater I've experienced on the planet."
Nice move.
audioguy 01-12-09, 12:54 PM There are many instances when "less is more" and I think this may be one of them. I suspect there are a number of theaters owned by folks who frequent these threads that would sound (and look) far superior to this thing. Can't imagine the power bill!
CUclimber 01-12-09, 02:27 PM The highlight of that room is the model of the Nautilus.
jmichaelf 01-12-09, 02:48 PM The first time I saw this I couldn't put my finger on it, I've got it now. The room is pretty distracting. The perfect circle of amps & speakers, the infinite number of drivers, the wall of vinyl and the noisy projector all come together in perfect visual dissonance.
It's a hard act to follow as far as money spent, kind of like the lottery winning meth addict that went broke and burnt down his girlfriend's trailer.
DougWinsor 01-12-09, 03:44 PM all of the cabling is audiophile-grade wire, and every aspect of performance and presentation is scrutinized, even down to the 40-amp cryogenically treated circuit breakers for each and every component in the system."
All that and he still buys into the snake oil, "audiophile-grade wire", "cryogenically treated circuit breakers", too funny.

How so? The gen VIII DAC's do not have HDMI.
blau808 01-13-09, 08:33 PM How does he get to his movie collection with all the crap in the way?
Unless theres something I'm not seeing, this is the most poorly laid out room ever.
Huh? those "collections" are there to act as diffuser not actual a media storage as you think.
I also see the room is acoustically treated. But i say its way over kill. This guy obviously have no life. Look at his seating area, enough for him, his dogs and his wife? Thats a lonely fellow with money to blow.

Kinda' funny statement when you don't even know one thing about this guy. What's the rest of his house(s) look like? How much does he give to charity? How many kids does he have? How much time does he spend with them? Is he the 'fun' dad that spends/spent a ton of time with them and their extracurricular activities? Good husband? In fact, I'd only wish to have some of your systems here on the forum, but I'm not going to tell you how to spend your money. Sounds more like high school all over again. Putting someone else down to feel better about yourself. That's called jealousy. I'll admit, I'm jealous too, but man do we have to knock him because he has a room and equipment list we'd all dream to have. Wether or not you'll admit it, it's a sweet set-up! Would you do it differently? Go ahead, when you can afford a 6 million home theater, prove it.
One man's ceiling is another's floor????.....????

You are much too nice a person to post here on this forum. You have to be envious, mean and poor to post on the $20K forum. Ask DougWinsor, among others! HA!
KyaDawn 01-14-09, 09:16 PM Wow, no HDMI, upscaling from 1080i? Is that a joke? The worse thing for me is that glass coffee table. For that kind of set-up, get a reclining chair at least.

You're been there?! How was it? :)
Kal Rubinson 01-14-09, 10:50 PM You're been there?! How was it? :)I've been there. It is an impressive system but not to my taste.
KyaDawn 01-14-09, 11:09 PM I've been there. It is an impressive system but not to my taste.
Do pray tell. Did it have all the issues people assume it has (i.e. amps in front distorting the center speakers, possible comb-filtering of the three centers, reflections from bare floors and lack of room treatments, distracting equipment lights and glowing tubes, etc.)? Or did it just sound flat out awesome?! :D
I wonder if he has actually sold any of these "KSS systems"? I'm pretty sure the $6 million price tag is what he wants to sell these for, not what he actually paid for his.
Well, many make fun of this guy but in reality, there are many people on this forum that are much more hilarious than he with all kind of voodoo stuff, thinking it will make the sound better.

They stick needles in their tweeters?

When you have that much money or spend that much money who is going to argue with the guy? As for the dealer that sold him the equipment they should be ashamed but then again why not just let him think he is right and make a huge profit.
