By the way, if you get E! HD, the Red Carpet should be up in HD.

YoungC55 01-11-09, 08:06 PM Watching via OTA NBC. Looks great!
What’s up with Sting and all the new hair? Looks like he stole his beard from Robin Williams. :D
icemannyr 01-11-09, 08:10 PM Looks like the graphics were composed for 16:9 but the show is not being letterboxed on the SD feed.
The name of the award is close to just going out the top safety area.
icemannyr 01-11-09, 08:15 PM Camera just went dark for a second. After the presenters came on screen.
What’s with the use of the 40 year old sci-fi sound effect-- the Star Trek doors opening or closing?

YoungC55 01-11-09, 09:00 PM I would like to spend thousands of dollars on an outfit. :p
Pretty Quiet here tonight...
What was up with the wall of condoms behind Don Cheetle and Jake G.?
NBC did a good job of showing the people when the nominations were read, something lacking in prior award shows.

I'm not sure that I agree with that one. Oh well...
pappy97 01-12-09, 02:45 AM I'm not sure that I agree with that one. Oh well...
Have you seen all the nominated films in the Best Motion Picture - Drama category? I only ask because most people have only seen one and want that one to win.
digestme 01-12-09, 04:10 AM Wow! Heath Ledger won the supporting actor award. He really did a great job in that batman movie. The Joker is one of the most memorable villains of all time.
He looks creepy in this joker polaroid pic (http://www.pixisnap.com/main/view/0000001343).

I would ask the same question, "Slumdog Millionaire" is a fabulous movie and deserves the win, it is by far the best movie I've seen this year.

Agreed. Slumdog Millionaire was amazing.

No, I haven't seen all of them. I have seen that one however. It just didn't do it for me. My vote would have been for Frost/Nixon personally.
How Tom Cruise and Robert Downey Jr. made it into the nominee list? Tropic Thunder was one of the worst films of all time... perhaps $$$$?
Cruise & Downey were hilarious in "TT," and that may account for their recognition.
Haven't seen "Slumdog," so I suppose I'll queue it up.
mlr_1977 01-12-09, 10:27 AM Well, it was on a slight delay as the last award winner was censored when he said the F word. however, they didn't have the ability to censor the video as that one director flipped off the award winner. Was that cut from the west coast feed? It happened with about 10 minutes to go in the show.

Agree 100%.
The ending dance by Tom was outstanding.
jrcorwin 01-12-09, 10:51 AM For me...Tropic Thunder was one of those films where the best moments were in the trailers.
TT: didn't see the ending, worst dollar I spent in a movie rental.. couldn't continue watching it....
At least they aren't nominated on SAG awards, if they do get an Oscar bit Hollywood has become insane.

Just because you didn't enjoy Tropic Thunder doesn't mean that others, including myself, did not.

When did he say you didn't or that others didn't enjoy it? He appeared to be expressing his own opinion.

It shows how poor movies were overall last year in terms of the absence of really great films. There were good movies, but not great. Overall for us enthusiasts 2008 was a great year for a lot of good movies, but nothing like a Schindler's list or Braveheart. 2008 sure was good for quality super hero movies, seemingly all of which got at least 3 stars in reviews, as they had good stories, good acting, good action and great cgi.
DSperber 01-13-09, 12:48 AM Still a bit behind realtime... just watched the GG preshow on NBC.
Could hardly hear it. Typical NBC digital audio from live events (e.g. Grant Park election night) which is barely audible.
According to Nancy O'Dell and many guests, the crowd was going wild and it was hard to hear each other.
Could've fooled me. I thought they were whispering to each other.
Just ridiculous. Hope the actual GG show has got better audio level.
Most unenjoyable and uninteresting pre-show I've seen. Couldn't wait for it to end.

Really, the sound was fine here for the preshow.
