I have used 50% windows generated by calman and HCFS to calibrate my LCDRPTV. I notice with my new plasma, these windows at the higher levels, 80-100% have a drop off in light output.
the AVSHD disk, uses a smaller window, and when I calibrate using this disk, the plasma follows the gamma curve correctly. I would guess the AVS disk window size is 35%.
Which is correct for calibrating a plasma, AVSHD, or Calman (getgray is the same size)?

We also have an option in CalMAN to use 15% windows for just this problem with Plasma.

Derek,
how do I access the 15% windows?

Hi Derek! I have a coupla questions...
Calman comes with a disk?!
15%... Is that based on a standard? Do you have like an Accupel generator to compare to for that? Or something like that?
AVS, DVE and Getgray all have different size windows. AVS have the smallest. Getgrays are massive in comparison. This is why I wonder these things.

With the Plasmas that I have tested, it's usually once you go beyond 25% sized windows that the brightness limiter seems to kick in. (on the Kuro monitors, this is extended to 50%)
If I remember correctly though, the EBU recommends using a 1% window (144x144px square w/1080p) for the measurement of phosphor-based displays.
With the Plasmas I've tested, I've found that there's a dip in brightness from 1% to 5%, 5% to 25% is usually fairly linear, and then 25% onwards is where the brightness limiter really kicks in.

Derek,
how do I access the 15% windows?
For pattern generators that support window size. Our HTPC, Quantum Data and the Lumigen Radiance. Under Addtional Test patterns you will see the toggle to define what window size to use.

The 15% is what we came up with from testing. AccuPel only has a single window size at this time.

thanks everybody, I understand what is happening now.
Derek, that was the last place I would have looked for the 15% windows, thanks
