View Full Version : 3 different sub options. Please help me pick. 1,2, or 3?
as i posted before, my room is about 24x14x 30 foot ceiling with open back wall to the rest of the house.
Was considering Artison but it had too big of a footprint for my needs.
after much tinkering my final 3 sub options to choose from:
Option 1.: (4) Triad in wall bronze6 subs
Option 2: (2) Triad in wall bronze6 subs and 1 SVS Ultra 13 hidden in back of room
Option 3: (1) Used JL Audio Gotham 212 hidden in back of room
(Can i place this sub on its side or not really?)
Which option would the pros go with?
1,2,3?
gordonmenninger 01-19-09, 07:04 PM for that huge room (have you calculated how many cubic feet that is? +10,800) #1 and #2 are out of the question. You need some big powerful drivers to move air in that huge space.
I would suggest the JL audio subs or a pair of Velodyne DD18's if you want some real impact. Remember, the large Velodyne can adequately fill a 4,000 cubic foot room with bass. You need multiple subs in that room!
mojomike 01-19-09, 07:17 PM You do realize that a Velo DD18 can barely squeek out 96db at 20hz? It's basically an overpriced weakling that has been slammed by newer competition at less than 1/3 the cost.
MagicTK 01-19-09, 07:21 PM Why not get all three options?!?!
localnet 01-19-09, 07:24 PM 4 SVS PC13 Ultra's? Now that will move some air!

That would easily beat up on the other choices mentioned.

Yep, I would like another one to throw in the basement. Nothing like having ones eyes bleed!:D:eek:
Love these things, at least the one I own. The movie Legend, the Mustang chasing the deer, physically moved me backwards in my seat! I cannot say enough good things about what they do to a movie. Just incredible!
My sound set up...
Denon AVR-4308ci
Polk CS1000p Center (a 70 pound Monster w/powered sub)
Polk 2000i l/r (also w/powered subs)
Polk f/x500i bipole/dipole surrounds
SVS PC13-Ultra BWAAAHHHHHHHHHH (the ultimate sub for a poor old truck driver)
Can you say rock the HOUSE!:eek::eek:
And I went around and metered everything with my trusty Radio Shack SPL meter, along with the audessy. Everything is tight, well as tight as I could get it. No boom, but my God! TURN IT DOWN!!!!!!!:D:D:D:D:D:D:D

1,2,3?Option 1: I don't know what the Triad's cost, but with that size space, you better be able to locate these close to the listening position (LP)
Option 2: I wouln't do this unless you want to have a difficult, but doable, setup.
Option 3: Don't know what you would pay for a used one, but having a large dual driver sub would give you the same problems I have with my large dual driver sub. Few placement options. Finding 2 F112s would probably be a better option.
How would you hide these subs in the back of the room? If hiding a big box is doable, look at the eD A7-900 or Epik Conquest. For smaller, somewhat, then multiple PB13s or PC13s.
You really do have a lot of options if you have a Gotham budget. Most these options will eventually find their way to this thread.
You might also explore having an IB system built in.
out of 1,2,3 and only those three which one would provide the best bass response for my room?
i wanted to go with the (4) Triads because it would fit in best with my room decor, and my in wall Triad Golds to complete the custom inwall 5.4 look. not sure though if the 4 10in subs would provide enough bass response in my room.
Any other thoughts on option 1?
mojomike 01-19-09, 09:48 PM Out of 1,2,or 3, #2 with the 13Ultra would give you the deepest bass. As far as the best overall response, there are too many variables to be able to predict.
will the (4) Triads provide pretty good bass or should really consider somethting else?

You can take a look at this list.

Triad is a rather costly option. I have no links to tests of in-wall speakers.
The Triad in-room Gold with 500 watt amp did pretty well, however if you scroll down almost to the bottom, the Triad Silver didn't do all that well.
If you get 4 Triad 6 Bronze you will likely end up with a good bit of mid-bass, but not nearly as much deep bass (25Hz on down).
You have to decide which is more important, the appearance of the room or really deep bass.
If it was my decision, I would go with the F212.
