View Full Version : Experience with Plasma Concepts Extended Warranties
JimO838 01-19-09, 05:41 PM I am in the market for a Pioneer PDP-5020FD. I have found a very good price at Plasma Concepts. I am debating whether to purchase the extended warranty from Plasma Concepts or from Mack Camera.
Based on my previous research I was strongly leaning towards the Mack Camera warranty. But I just read a thread started by pimpee that detailed a 3 month ordeal on getting his tv fixed with a Mack Camera warranty.
Now I am wondering if I wouldn't be better off going with the warranty from Plasma concepts. The prices are close enough to not be an issue.
This is my first HDTV purchase and any input either way would be appreciated.
Thanks,
sullly11 01-19-09, 06:10 PM I've been doing some research myself on EWs. Plasma Concepts is likely just the distributor and not the underwriter of the EW (they sell Repairmaster EWs; Repairmaster is one of the other large EW companies similar to Mack). There is a long thread on EWs in AVS; worth reading if you search the thread.
Check the powerbuy section on AVS; TexasTapeworks has pretty good pricing on Mack EWs.

Thanks for the information.
I did look at the deal from Tape Works on the Mack warranties. I just got a little spooked when I read the thread from pimpee and his experience with Mack Camera.
Thanks again!
gotchaforce 01-21-09, 12:50 AM buy the thing with your amex card and then extend the warranty through that IMO. it will be cheaper, and probably better. credit cards jump through hoops to please a customer when it comes to warranties.

I know MasterCard does the same and I think Visa does too. If you use a CC it will double the manufacturers warranty, so if the manufacturer has a 1 year warranty the CC doubles that to 2 years, the second year covered by the CC.

After reading the whole thread from pimpee, I kind of looking at it the other way around. It seems to me if you buy Mack EW from the two forum sponsors, then you will be well taken care of because they have "connections" or "pulls" or "relationship" or whatever you want to call it with Mack. Since the price for Mack EW is very similar across all dealers, if you seriously consider buying the EW, you should talk to the two forum sponsors. Strictly just my opinion. ;)

Good advice
HammerRock 01-21-09, 01:42 PM I have an EW and a bulb warranty with Mack for my KDF-E42A10. I needed a new bulb and they sent it right away, no problem. If I ever buy a TV that's over $1000 again I would def consider buying a Mack EW again.

Thanks,
Thank you for considering our warranty. I hope you do choose our service.
What happened with pimpee while does not clear us was a combination of holiday season,it being a philips tv which they are very hard to deal with on parts, the service provider in D.C. not cooperating with us, and one of our techs being out with a serious medical condition. I would not say that the forum dealers have more pull over our actual customers but we are always trying to better our customer service, and hopefully being on AVS Forum we can provide FAQS and support to the members looking for it
JimO838 01-23-09, 07:39 PM Everyone,
Thank you very much for your input on this thread. It has definitely put my mind to ease. I will most likely go with the EW from Mack Camera.
Now I just have to get over my anxiety on waiting for my new tv to be delivered.:)
Phipp01,
Do you know if the extended warranty applies if you use a Visa debit card?
Thanks Again!

No question, that having troubles with electronics (and every thing else) is luck of the draw. Saves some people from high payouts in repairs, others will never need repairs. The real question is "Do you feel lucky?"

Definitely not when using a Visa debit card - sorry.
Question 2: What other types of consumer protections does Visa offer to debit card holders?
Response: The Visa Check card offers better security protections than cash or checks. All Visa cardholders (debit, credit, or prepaid) are protected by Visa’s Zero Liability policy, which means you pay nothing if unauthorized purchases are made on your Visa Check cards or credit cards when you choose to sign for your transactions. While some issuing financial institutions also offer Zero Liability protections for certain PIN debit transactions as well, the best way to ensure you are protected is to sign for your purchase.
My comments: Unlike some credit cards, debit cards do not offer price matching guarantees or automatic extended warranties. Debit cards will never change interest or late fees, and there is a soft limitation to spend only what you have available.
