Hi All,

I've got newb question.

Just recently bought an ONKYO TX-SR606 receiver and got it hooked up to my 1080p TV and Playstation 3.

I realize that there is a DTS-HD LED on the receiver LED that should light up when it detects a DTS-HD MA signal. I played "The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor" which does have the DTS-HD MA signal.

However, the DTS-HD LED does not come on. On the Onkyo LED bar, I get "PCM, MULTI CH, and HDMI" that lights up.

Is this really DTS-HD MA? Or is there some setting on my receiver I am missing. I checked my PS3 settings and the audio info shows "DTS-HD MA".

HELP??

Thanks.

The PS3 does not bitstream the advanced audio formats - it decodes them internally. So the receiver sees the audio as the decoded MCH PCM. Same is true of Dolby TrueHD and Dolby DD+.

You'd want a player that bitstreams these audio formats to see the light(s) show up. Not that it matters - the audio is identical (unless something is wrong) in either case.

Thanks, shinksma, for the clarification. You've been a great help already as I am learning a lot by the minute.

So if I were to stop the DTS-HD MA decoder within the PS3, then the receiver should pick up the bitstream, right?

Thanks for your quick replies.

No, since the PS3 can't bitstream DTS-MA or TrueHD because of a hardware limitation.
