'Mad Men' Season 3 set for summer
AMC president optimistic creator will return
By DANIEL FRANKEL

AMC prexy Charlie Collier went right to the question on every reporters' mind at the start of the cabler's Television Critics Assn. panel on Thursday afternoon: The fate of the net's Emmy-winning drama "Mad Men."

The period skein will return for its third season this summer as skedded, despite the prolonged contract negotiations between producer Lionsgate TV and creator/exec producer Matthew Weiner, Collier assured.

"As long as we get the writers' room up and running over the next few months, we're fine (for a summer launch)," Collier told reporters after the sesh, adding that he's optimistic that an agreement with Weiner will be reached soon.

The return of "Mad Men" will lead into the launch of "The Prisoner," the six-part series remake of the classic 1960s Brit drama of the same name.

Hey AMC, I'll tell you the same thing they tell the patrons at the craps table at a males-only nudist casino:

No Weiner, no dice.

'Mad Men' Creator Weiner Re-ups With Lionsgate TV

Creator Returns For Third Season As Exec Producer-Showrunner Of AMC's Acclaimed Show

Mike Reynolds -- Multichannel News

Matthew Weiner, the man behind Mad Men, is back with the AMC series. The show's creator Friday reached a two-year deal with producer Lionsgate TV to continue to lead the Emmy Award- and Golden Globe-winning drama about the professional and personal lives of a 1960s advertising agency. The pact, which is reportedly in the seven figures, keeps Weiner as the executive producer and showrunner for Mad Men. He will also develop new projects for Lionsgate TV and potentially a theatrical for Lionsgate. Weiner's original deal with Lionsgate TV covered the first two seasons of Mad Men, which became the first basic-cable series to win the outstanding drama Emmy. In September, Weiner began meeting with studios for a potential overall deal. AMC, in October, awarded Lionsgate a third-season for the show, even though Weiner was not on board at that time.

"Skedded"......"Sesh......"

Hey, I don't know about the rest of you, but this guy Frankel seems just too cool for school. I'll bet he hangs around with the big kids in the schoolyard, too!

That's the peculiar style of that publication, Variety. They consider themselves the premiere "insider" rag in Hollywood. They even have their own special little language.

They did first coin the term "sitcom" which is widely used and recognized today by the general public, IMO. I've never figured out what "skein" is.

I have Season 1 on order from Netflix. I note s2 is available in the "save" icon.

Makes more sense than waiting for AMC HD with its commercials to arrive on D*.
