View Full Version : Sony G70 gibberish on all tubes and no error code
starwors 01-23-09, 08:07 AM Hi, I just bought a Sony G70 and when I power it on, I can only see gibberish on all tubes. The gibberish looks more like a "dot matrix barcode". Is there something I can do to solve the problem? Like a reset on the YB board? On Curt
PLEASE HELP ME!!
Regards
Hein
Curt Palme 01-23-09, 08:09 AM Sounds like the Ya or Yb boards are back. I would NOT do a reset, you could completely kill the two boards. Let me know if you want to send them in for repairs.

starwors 01-24-09, 07:13 AM I bought it from someone in South Africa, he promised low hours on the tubes and in good working condition! I guess I'll never trust a south african again. Look, I would love to send my Yb & Ya to Curt for repairs but transport alone will kill my budget! And I also need a new green and blue tube :(
Back to the problem, when I power the unit on, I get a quick error “code 10” for like 2 seconds and after the error is gone, gibberish appears on all the tubes. The remote does work, I can adjust the brightness, contrast and even switch between sources. No matter what I do, the gibberish stays! Please check the pictures I've attached.
Thanks!
Hein

wow your brave, it seems like every scam comes from Africa. You're lucky you even got a projector at all.
starwors 01-24-09, 12:14 PM Haha, I do live in Africa, Namibia, in a small town called Swakopmund. You have no idea how hard it is to source for a working CRT projector in Africa!! The G70 is my third one and I really like this one, but I need spare parts to fix it. The only option left for me is to import parts from the US!!!
draganm 01-24-09, 12:37 PM yes that must be hard, I bet people delete your e-mails as soon as they see "Africa".
Luckilly there are a lot more Sony G70 parts out there than there were a few years ago. I just parted out 3 machines and sold a ton of stuff, mostly to people here in the US but also to the EU. I have no problem shipping to Africa but I wonder how reliable the postal service is when you send stuff out into the bush? I picture this poor mailman on a bicycle being chased by Lion's:D

With palm-lined streets, seaside promenades and fine accommodation for all budgets, Swakopmund is Namibia’s most popular holiday destination, and its pleasant summer climate and decent beaches attract surfers, anglers and beach lovers from al over Southern Africa.
Looks like I'll be parting out a G70 this week, too. Lots of interest in each part, but no one seems to want it whole.
starwors 01-25-09, 12:49 PM Where can I download/buy the full service manual for a Sony G70? I bought one from www.freebrd.com but it's not complete.
Thanks
