Hey Guys , Im new here so bare with me. I did a search also before posting.

I was wondering if it was possible to place a projector in my living room which has moderate amount of light during the day time. Would the projector even work well? or would the picture be too light.

I know I would have no problem with it during the evening hours and night time viewing. I just wanted to make sure before I do even more research in purchasing one.

Thanks.

As long as no light shines directly on it you should be fine. I just got my Epson 6100 in yesterday (1800 lumens) and use it in my living room and it's great. Just make sure you have curtains or something to cover up your windows. A light or two in the room will still let the picture be watchable during daytime. Depending on your budget go for lots of lumens. I definately recommend the Epson 6100.

Yes it is and here is an example

Optoma EP1690 and an Optoma Gray Wolf II screen installed Jan 07 for $1600, now could be done for around $1200. Notice the light is not shining directly on the screen. I watch sports on the weekend and the wife and kids watch HDTV during the week with the lights on.

so as long as i get a lot of lumens im good right? what happens if light shines on the screen? will the picture wash out?

Yeah, the more lumens the better imho. If light shines directly on the screen it will wash it out and drastically alter the PQ.

In the 720p LCD camp, the Panasonic AX200 and the Epson HC720. In the 1080p LCD camp, the Epson HC6100. The new Epson HC700 is also very bright, but not nearly as flexible as the first 3 as it has no lens shift and very little zoom range.

In the DLP camp, the Optoma 1690 or 1691.

Like bguzeman, I also use our livingroom setup as the primary TV. I also use a retro-reflective screen, in my case the Dalite HiPower. The Greywolf and HiPower help with ambient light coming in from the side ( but not the back ). To take best advantage of the high gain of a retro-reflective screen, the projector should be mounted as close to eye level as possible.

The Benq SP831 will crank out 4000 lumens.

Even so, if any light shines directly on the screen, the image will suffer.

Just so happens I uploaded a some screenshots with some lights on and some compared to my LCD tv. I will post some pics in the daytime soon. The pictures with the light also have every other light on in the room which was 7 total. It looks dark, but its pretty bright when standing in the room.

As long as you have some shades you should be fine. You could even leave one open if you get a good enough pj.
