Have one of the above named units and the cooling fan runs almost all of the time. Is this as it should be or do I have a problem with it? Even when the recorder is off the fan will run. Air coming out of the fan is also very warm.

If the air is warm, it is dumping heat that would otherwise eventually affect the componentry, no? It may have a 'standby' setting so the HD is not spinning 24X7, or could have 'sleep' mode. I tried to get one, but didn't offer enough dough on the web auction.. waaahhhh...

I think you would get more response in the area that is all about DVDRs. This one is about Tivo and Dish type recorders. (I think, I am not that experienced here...)
