I recently just switched from CmCst to D*TV and have been having problems configuring one part of the receiver.

On my old SA8300 I could enable all resolutions w/ pass through, this way the box would show in the native signal being broadcasted and it have it fill the whole screen. On the HR23 I have from D*TV, if I set Native to ON and format to STRETCH it will not stretch the signal to fill the whole tv, I still end up with the black bars.

I have a PZ80 and have tried playing with the different format settings but Just/Fill don't change the picture at all, and if I go to Zoom it zooms in way to much.

Am I missing anything else?

I always have to question why people spend so much money on TV's and then intentionally distort the picture?

Sure pillars (bars right and left ) and letter boxing (bars top and bottom) are a drag but that's just the way it is.

You are not "missing something" just because the picture does not fill the screen completely.

It's not the end of the world type thing for me. I was just curious and am starting to get used to it already.
