Have you looked into the demo deals on projectorpeople.com?

Hi there,

If I can make a suggestion, I was also looking into buying the Panasonic AX200 until I found this projector, the Eiki 1600T.

It is practically identical to the Marantz VP4001 and Sharp XV-Z3000 projectors.

1200 ANSI Lumens
1280 x 768 (720P)
6500:1 Contrast ratio
6 segment, 5X speed colour wheel
3 Year Warranty

The reviews on the projector have been great to those who I have spoken to and the price is ridiculous. I found it here:
http://www.touchboards.com/eiki/EikiEIP-1600T.asp

Basically, from an image quality standpoint there is no 720P projector in this price range that can compete and I only share my finding this amazing deal in the hope that more people have an satisfying home theater experience. From what the company also told me, there is a repair center as well in Toronto (where I am from) and that the 3 year warranty applies to Canada as well!

Let me know your thoughts.

Very interesting on the Eiki. I wonder how it compares to the Infocus 7210?

I got the link to the demo machines as well - thanks!

I'm now torn between:

Infocus X9
Infocus 7210 used, no warranty
Pan 200u
Eiki 1600T / Sharp z3000
Sharp 510

Any thoughts - please help me out here.

You've got a lot of DLPs on that list. Make sure that they will fit in your room. Unlike LCDs, they usually have short zooms and and no lens shift. This can make them more difficult or even impossible to correctly install in many rooms.

I was sooo close to getting the HC1600 on Sat before the offer expired, but was waiting on a check from a client that didn't come until today. I think I'm glad it didn't come until today. But I figured between rebate and selling the extra bulb and my SVGA Optoma EP732, it would only cost me 3 bills or so. But even though we don't see RBE on my 732, knowing my luck, either me or my girlfriend would.

But it looks like I should just wait a while longer until I can afford the Panny. It seems like everything I read says it's the best out there for under $1k. PC rate it as one best 720P PJ's out there (www.projectorcentral.com/home-theater-projectors.htm) - 2nd only to the Epson 720. My only issue is that we bring it up to camp in the summer (during good weather), and the Panny is significanly heavier since it's not considered a portable. But I'm sure I can manage with it. I'm just sick of the non-existant black levels on the 732 we have now.

Keep checking PP and their deal of the day to see if it pops up.

Just did a Google price search, two popped up as having it for under 8 bills...but after doing a search on them...they're just bait & switch scam sites. PP has it for the cheapest of the reputable places.

j&r has it for $949. What I'm really interested is in the 3 yr master svc warranty for $99. Don't know if that covers bulb and projector P&L.

currently, I have a ax100u, with 1600 hours, a brand new lamp in the box, and an extended warranty that doesn't expire for another 14 months. Thinking about selling it and getting the ax200u to see if I can get rid of the ps3 green flash problem and get a new projector with a new extended warranty.

Thoughts?

If you go with the 200, keep the new lamp as a spare for the new projector.

netjack,
You can send the pan ax100u to heartland and update to the new firmware.

All repair is done via Heartland, I had (have an AX100) through Visual Apex and sent it in several times, after needing a $850 repair GE (the warranties VA used to sell) opted to buy me a new projector instead... so I now run the AX200.

To the OP Visual Apex has them at the lowest price I have seen and offers warranties. If they still offer the GE warranties I recommend them highly, if they are a different provider then I have no experience.
