Hey I found a Sanyo PLC-SU30 projector the other day in my storage room and thought I would see if I could get it working. I plugged it in an hit the power button but the fans were only on for a few seconds then turned off. I also noticed that the "lamp" led on it was red. I'm not sure if the bulb needs to be replaced or if something else is wrong. What do you think?

It sounds like you need a new lamp. If that doesn't work you could have an issue with the lamp ballast that would require repair. I'd give Sanyo tech support a call.

How would I go about checking if it is the ballast? I am not afraid of taking the projector apart because I love taking things apart and putting them back together. Maybe someone could give me a little tutorial on where and how to find it because I don't want to take apart more than I need to.
I don't think it's the bulb because the bulb looks like it is in perfect condition (I could be wrong) but I would think that the projector would at least turn on for more than 3-4sec if the only fault was the bulb.
I will try tech support as well (hopefully I don't get a person that tells me that I need to plug in the projector in order for it to turn on...)
Thanks

Sanyo's tech's are pretty knowledgable. They should point you in the right direction. You might want to PM Sheridan1952 - he may have a copy of the Sanyo service manual or know where to find one.
