If these could be had at a great price (I mean a ball smacking deal) is this a viable PJ in todays market?

I had one and did not like it. My brother had one and the PQ was good but there were always glitches with it. From what I had heard there were a lot of quality problems with this model, mainly surrounding the power supply.

I can only speak to one unit, but a client did change his out after just 6 months of ownership because of issues similar to what Ken described. (He moved to Sim2.)

Just wondering. I have a SIM HT380.

If you can live with reliability issues, in my opinion a properly calibrated Runco 3 chip is one of the best looking pictures out there.

I changed mine out for the Runco Vx22d 1080p 3 chip DLP and I love it.

In my opinion yes. I'm no engineer so I can't explain from a technical point of view or even attempt to argue my opinion from that perspective, but what I can say is that my experience with high end Runco 720P 3 chips properly set up the picture is astounding. I would take a higher end 720 runco over their entry level 1080p. What I've found is that higher resolution doesn't always mean better. That's just my opinion. At the same time, I'm not that high on Runco right now due to their reliability issues.

That would be a big negative for me, even if the pix was better than any other set out there.
