I'm wondering if anyone here uses rope light as backlighting behind your flat panel TV's. I'm considering putting some behind my wall-mounted plasma for the cool effect, but am not sure how to secure it to the back of the TV. Obviously I'm not going to screw the little clips into the TV. Does anyone have any suggestions? I tried doing a search for this, but didn't come up with anything that addresses my specific question. Also, if you think I would have better luck asking in a different forum, please say so. Thanks.

Some tape should be sufficient to hold it on. Just make sure the colour the lights are as close to neutral grey (D65) as you can find.

There is a backlighting thread in the Display Calibration subforum if you want more info.

Thanks. I'll check that thread out.

Lowes and Home Depot sell small sticky pad plastic hooks. Stick them on the back of the tv and then use small zip ties to attach the light to the hooks.

there was a post in the furntiure forum where a guy used the ikea diode lighting that switches between 7 different colors etc., I would suggest using that instead.

I do not know your budget. But search for the back lighting display thread. Granted the ones -cinema- sales is ~$70. but the 65K lights do help out with better PQ. You have a nice setup -these lights will make it even better.......... You will get a nicer effect than ropelights- i had them.

I think a better way to say it would be they help with your perception of PQ. They don't actually change anything on the TV. Speaking of which I need to order some of those.

Thanks for all the responses. I'll look into the other options. The only reason I was considering rope lighting is because I already have a strand of it. And thanks for the compliment DAB.

If I go with something else, I would like to ability to change colors, assuming I don't have to sell a kidney to pay for it.

Could someone post a link to the other lighting discussion?

I like the idea of a light behind the TV but does anyone know of one that can be controlled by a remote?

I think this is the one. It's dedicated to while bias lighting.

12ft. Good Earth rope light, looks amazing! It's a tad bit dimmer than what's shown in the picture, but it's perfect. (Have yet to organize my cables though ;p)
