Hi,
Trying to implement 7.1. I have 5.1 currently so the left surround and right surround will be new.

The issue I'm running into is placement of the "side" surround. When I implement these, they will be out a little wider than the rest of the speakers. I have no choice, as the walls are just designed that way. Does this matter? Can I counter this by increasing the volume of these speakers?

thanks,

You certainly can compensate that way. Newer receivers have the "Audyssey" system that automatically adjusts speaker volumes evenly. My older receiver is done "by ear" or with a pink noise generator.

As long as you get your speakers mounted in the same plane relative to the listening position, you should be able to compensate for distance differences (relative to your other speakers) using individual volume adjustments in your receiver's speaker setup.

+1 With today's receivers that have the auto adjust to "fix" just such a situation like yours you should be just fine.
