View Full Version : DVD VCR Combo Recorder with "Digital Tuner and Hard Drive.. avs2008 01-26-09, 11:39 PM Any one know of any reasonably priced combos of this type.. and possibly a SD card slot as well.. jtbell 01-27-09, 12:43 AM No such units are currently available, or have been. The closest is probably the Panasonic DMR-EZ48K, which has VHS, DVD, SD slot, and digital tuner, but no hard disk. The big sticking point in your wish list is the hard disk. There are only one or two units with hard disks, including a Philips unit which is the subject of a sticky thread at the top of this forum. For your desired combination, the best bet is probably a used or after-market Panasonic DMR-EH75V. CitiBear 01-27-09, 10:29 AM None were ever made with the American-standard ATSC tuner (a few are for sale in Europe with the continental DTV tuners but they don't work here). Actually very few DVD/HDD/VHS triple combos were ever made at all, I think there were just a couple of Panasonics, a couple of JVC consumer decks, and there may still be one JVC "pro" model. These were all designed in 2006 pre-digital, and have analog tuners only. Of these the ONLY ones that are any good are the Panasonics, model EH75. Avoid anything JVC like the plague: their hard drive systems fail very quickly and cannot be repaired: JVC rather idiotically engineered these so badly that the hard drive cannot be replaced when it fails, yet simultaneously they have the worst hard drive operating system imaginable. Terrible units. Look for a Panasonic EH75, used or "new old stock", and add one of the $50 govt-sponsored ATSC converter boxes. The easier and more functional option would be to buy a Phillips 3576 or Magnavox H2160 with integral ATSC tuner and hard drive, and just add a vcr next to it. If you don't already have a VCR, look on eBay or CraigsList for a used Quasar, Sharp or Mitsubishi: these can often be had for $20. The Mitsubishi 448 was the last of the great VCRs built to last, it dates from perhaps 2003, see if you can get one. |
