View Full Version : Looking for DVD recorder that can record digital and analog closed caption ashapakwan 01-27-09, 03:30 AM Hi, I am new to this forum and I want to ask if anyone knows a DVD recorder that can record digital and analog closed caption. 80sGuy 01-27-09, 04:58 AM Closed Caption is not of the DVD recorders' but from the shows. As far as I know, all of them records closed caption regardless, just set your t.v. remote during playback and you should be able to retrieve it. wajo 01-27-09, 08:10 AM Yes, the Magnavox 2160 records both analog and digital CC. The digital CC become part of the video, however, and can't be turned off like analog CC. Click #1 in my signature for more info. ashapakwan 01-27-09, 05:29 PM Thanks for the suggestion and where I can buy this DVD recorder (Magnavox H2160). I live in Vancouver Canada and I've checked bestbuy, ebay (Canada & US) and amazon.com. and none of them sale this machine. jjeff 01-27-09, 05:37 PM Walmart.com sells the 2160, I know Walmart is in Canada but I'm not sure if WM.com will ship to Canada, maybe someone else will know. wajo 01-27-09, 06:41 PM Thanks for the suggestion and where I can buy this DVD recorder (Magnavox H2160). I live in Vancouver Canada and I've checked bestbuy, ebay (Canada & US) and amazon.com. and none of them sale this machine. If you click #1 in my signature, again, you'll see a section 8, Sellers and Support in the long table. The 2160 is a Walmart Online USA exclusive (prob. to keep price low) and they say they don't ship to Canada. For this one, which is currently available at Walmart online, you'd prob. have to have a US friend order it for you and ship to his home or store for pickup? Also on that page are links for the Philips 3576, from which the 2160 was built basically... about $50-70 more. There's only one Canadian seller in section 8 on that page, but many Google Checkout sellers, some of which might ship to Canada (like Amazon?). ashapakwan 01-27-09, 06:44 PM I just checked walmart.com and they don't ship to Canada. I've looked walmart.ca and they don't have this model. :( wajo 01-27-09, 06:51 PM I just checked walmart.com and they don't ship to Canada. I've looked walmart.ca and they don't have this model. :( Yes. it's a Walmart Online USA exclusive. Scratch the Philips 3576 I mentioned above... doesn't record digital CC, just displays them. See my post above for one way to get a 2160 if you have a friend or relative in the U.S. The 2160 is available from Walmart online, at that link I gave you. ashapakwan 01-27-09, 06:52 PM But wajo, you said Philips 3576 don't record digital cc and I need one can do both. jjeff 01-27-09, 06:56 PM Since they'll ship to a US store(if they'll let you order it from Canada) you could just have it shipped to your nearest US Walmart and pick it up yourself. Not sure how far you're from a US WM or how often you get state side, but it would be an option. Kind of a funny situation, most of the times us Americans are figuring out how to get the Canadian Pioneers, this time it's a Canadian trying to get a US Magnavox, I guess turn about is fair play:D ashapakwan 01-27-09, 06:59 PM HaHa, that's funny and thanks everyone. I'll see if I can find someone in U.S. to get it for me. wajo 01-27-09, 07:00 PM But wajo, you said Philips 3576 don't record digital cc and I need one can do both. That's why I said "scratch" the 3576... not sure what else I can say. Only the 2160 can record both analog and digital CC. Also not sure you're reading that linked info, so you need to know the 2160 records the digital CC as a permanent part of the video... can't turn it off and on like analog CC. ashapakwan 01-27-09, 07:16 PM Yes I had read the info link and understand the recorded digital cc would become a permanent part of the video, I want this feature mainly for my Dad. wajo 01-27-09, 07:44 PM I just got my 2160 today and had to try that digital CC... works great! Most shows have the CC on the bottom, but ESPN puts theirs at the top, prob. cuz they have a streaming banner at the bottom all the time. Seems to be a great feature for the hearing-impaired, who I don't think will mind if the captions are always there! :) ashapakwan 01-27-09, 08:02 PM Great! It seems a nice machine. Wish I can it here in Vancouver. Tulpa 01-27-09, 08:34 PM Road trip to Seattle? :) mattack 01-27-09, 09:59 PM It's not a DVD recorder, but the Tivo HD (and Series 3, the older version of the same platform) will record digital and analog CC. (In fact, I often dub shows that I intend to watch once and delete to my Toshiba XS32 with CC turned on, so that I can watch them at faster than realtime with sound on -- and use the closed captions as a 'backup' for when I miss a bit of dialog, so I don't have to back up as often.. Yes, even with _some_ backing up, I still watch things much faster than realtime.. I don't do this for any scripted shows, just news/documentaries/reality shows and some game shows.) psigp 01-30-09, 04:41 PM Quote: Originally Posted by ashapakwan View Post I just checked walmart.com and they don't ship to Canada. I also believe I saw it in a Walmart in Mississauga in December sometime. So you may have to call the store or better yet go and look for yourself. I suspect Walmart.ca online is like Costco.ca, where products on their website do not necessarily reflect what is available at the store. Good luck hunting. ashapakwan 01-31-09, 07:57 AM Thanks for info. I'll go and check it out the Walmart in Vancouver. They don't even have it at walmart.com now. This product is currently out of stock. |
