looking for a projector that can throw 245 in, yet only yield a 120in or less screen size. is this hard to find or am i just not looking in the right places.
willing to spend more than 3k if neccessary. any suggestions?? thanks

I can't think of any off hand, although you could always add a long throw lwns to an off the shelf projector. Do a google search for "long throw" & projector and you should come up with some options. When you find a candidate, use ProjectorCentral.com's calculator to see if it will really work for your installation.

The range of throw distances for the Marantz VP8600 is 188 to 251. But, it is not $3K.

I'm sure there are others. Many LCDs have a 2:1 range.

You will need a pj with good brightness at that distance.

That doesn't sound like anything fancy? My AX200 throws 22-24 feet and I think my image is 140" diagonal, getting it down to 120" would be a breeze.

Is there something complicated I'm missing here?

Seems really easy to me. Using projectorcentral's calculator (120" image at 20') the following PJs will all work, and all are less than $3k:

720p models:
Panny PT-AX200U
Epson Home Cinema 720
Marantz VP8600 (just added this as it does work, and they cost around $1k now)

1080p models:
Sanyo PLV-Z700
Sanyo PLV-Z3000
Epson 6500UB
Panny PT-AE3000

As you can see, you have tons of choices. My only concern with a long throw is making sure you have a bright enough projector. The longer the throw, the more lumens you need. With that in mind, if you want to keep the budget around $1k the PT-AX200U should be top of list. If can/want to spend closer to the $3k mark, than you should check out the Epson 6500UB.

Just my $02. :D Happy Hunting!

I'm sure there are many more - I just did a real quick search. That throw and screen size is no problem at all.

Why list the throw in inches? Why not just say 20 feet?

Anyway...
