My first HD1000U was exchanged within it's first year by the manufactures warranty with 2600 hours on the lamp (bad color wheel).
My newer 1000U is almost a year old and the projector has reached its lamp life of 3000 hours.
The projector shut down and indicated the problem with double red constant indicators.
I reset the timer and the lamp works fine.
The owners manual states, do not reset timer without replacing bulb.
The manual does not explain the pros or cons of doing this.
Am I hurting anything by resetting the timer without replacing the lamp?
I can get a new lamp online thru E*** for $230.00 delivered.
Before I order a replacement lamp, is ther any emerging technology that I am unaware of projector wise that might make me reconsider purchasing a replacement lamp at this time.
Thanks, Lonnie

There's a remote possibility the lamp could explode inside the unit if you continue using it, but I've read posts from many people that have just reset their lamp timers and waited for the lamp to fail without issue.

If your projector is fine and only the lamp has hit 3000, why not get a new bulb and not risk it? A blown bulb can damage the projector.

Because it's the AVS way? :)

Wow! That's at least 8 hours a day!

Keep cranking it until it's too dim to see or it won't strike!

Get a lamp waranty with your next PJ purchase. $100 for 2 or 3 lamps is well worth it and you will spend less on replacements.

I purchased a 3 year extended bulb warranty from Repair Master when I purchased the projector thru Projector People.
The warranty does not cover lamps that have served there life limit(manufacture defect only).
I still have 1 year left on the warranty, so when this one burns out, i'll try to have them replace it, the worst can happen is they say no.
I really can't complain, I use the projector for all of my TV viewing and the bulb is still burning very bright.
The color wheel has started to scream just like my first unit.
Repair Master sent out a tech and he has one on order thru my projectors extended warranty.
Other than the color wheel problem, i've been quite happy with Mitsu,
Thanks for the input.
About emerging technology,is anything interesting out there to watch in the coming year projector wise?

The warranty does not cover lamps that have served there life limit(manufacture defect only).

That is not correct. The Repair Master warranty covers lamps that still work fine but have reached the maximum life.

Thanks for the info.
I guess I may have misread the warranty exclusions.
Reading comprehension is not my forte.
I'll call them tommorow.
I'll let you all know what happens.
Thanks again

Thanks!
You are certainly correct.
I called Repair Master and they gave a control number and are sending out a new lamp.
This $99.00 extended warranty did pay off.
I appreciate your input and help.
Once I get a new lamp and color wheel, I should be good for another year.
