I'm not sure if ventilation is a recommendation or a requirement.

I currently have a HK AVR 354, Oddo 980H DVD player, HD Sat Receiver and an Xbox 360.

I know the 360 needs to be ventilated or it will RRoD on me, but what about the other components? I currently have all my old HK and DVD player (15+ years old) in a cabinet that closes and I've never had any issues. However all this stuff is new and I'm sure runs much more hot than previous generations.

Would having just an open front or just an open back be sufficient? Or do I need ventilation to flow through?

Any recommendations or concerns would be greatly appreciated.

Probably as long as there is some separation between your components and not stacked one on top of the other.

Can you separate the hotter components? I have a receiver, DVD, and a BD player in one cabinet and a HD DVR and CD player in another. My receiver and HD DVR get the hottest so I placed them apart.
