I am considering purchasing the DP-X7000 video stabilizer from World imports for use with my DVD recorder. I have a hopefully easy question to ask about connectivity:
I understand I can put the DP-X7000 between my digital cable box and my DVD recorder for movies on cable, etc...
However, if I have VHS tape movies I want to transfer to DVD, how do I work the VCR into the chain to have the DP-X7000 allow for that functionality as well?
Hope that is fairly clear. Thanks
Doug
If the DP doesn't have 2 separate video inputs (like my Sima CT-2 does) then you'd either need to manually disconnect your DVDR and hook up your VHS when doing a VHS dub, or get a switcher and install it before your DP. You could then select between VHS and DVR by just pushing a button.
Switchers can incur some loss so either get a good one or use the manual method.

I am new to almost all of this, but I am learning fast from many of you on this site.
Thanks

You are suggesting I take video out from the VCR, into the DP-X7000, and the DP out to the DVD Recoder? In essence taking the comcast DVR out of the loop? Would I even need the TV, and how would that be connected?
Sorry if that is a dumb question.
Doug
Yes while you're dubbing your tapes the DVR would be out of the loop. As far as wiring I'd need to know more, such as: is your DVR HD? What type of inputs does your TV have and are there unused ones and what are they?
Ideally you'd probably want to set things up so you could copy VHS tapes as well as DVDs and also your DVR material to DVD. Note to copy DVDs you'll also need another DVD player of some type.

I dont actually have the DVD recorder yet, but I like to be prepared, so set up isn't a frustrating nightmare, LOL
It is an HD DVR from Comcast. I believe it is currently going via component from the Cable box directly to the TV. This is the bedroom TV, so not as familiar with every detail like my home theater area.
I was originally just going to hook up the cable into the DVDR into the TV. And if I add this DP-X7000, was going to insert that between the HD DVR and the recorder, and that all made total sense.
I then realized the wife may want to make DVD copies of her disney VHS collection for out daughter, and since the DP-X7000 will allow for that, I got confused on how to integrate the VCR.
I am not averse to just inserting the VCR once in a while to do that tape copying, for that will not be a standard process. But I own 3 working VCR's that are not currently being used, so if it is smarter to just integrate a VCR from the beginning, I will do that.
I have confirmed, at least from the World Imports website, it looks as though the DP-X7000 only has a single input...
So if you can clearly tell me how to just remove the DVR from the loop when I want to copy VHS tapes, that would probably be the best solution for me. Your instructions made sense, I just wasnt sure how to remove the DVR and still have the TV involved.
Thanks for helping the uniformed.

I would think your normal setup would be as follows: DVR component output directly to your TV(along with audio output L&R). DVR S-video output and L&R audio output to DP-X7000s inputs. DP-X7000 S-video output and audio to DVDR line input. DVDR output (whatever is the best input your TV has available) to TV's input.
For watching HD off your DVR then just select your component input on your TV.
For watching DVDs select your TV input that you hooked your DVDR to. Also use this input when setting up your DVDR to record.
Now if you want to copy or watch a VHS you only need to unplug the S-video and audio from your DVR to your DP-X7000 and attach your VCRs line output to the DP-7000 inputs.
My Sima CT-2 has a input selector switch that tells it whether to get it's signal from S-video in or composite (yellow) in. I didn't see a switch on the DP-7000 so it may use input sensing. How this usually works is if you have a S-video device plugged in, that is the selected input. If you don't then it looks at the composite input. Most VCRs only have composite output so even thought you could just plug your video in the unused composite input you "may" need to disconnect the S-video input cable.
When you switch your wires to the VCR you need to switch the audio cables too. jjeff has given you good advice and I would go with a switch so that the DVR and the VCR would go into the switch then from the switch out to DP-X7000. The switch would handle both audio and video and they are fairly cheap online.

That should work fine, thank you very much.
